Chengdu Institute of Physical Education is one of the institutions directly under the State Sports Commission and the only institution of higher learning in Southwest China. Her predecessor was Sichuan Institute of Physical Education, which was founded in the autumn of 1942. At the beginning of the school, the school was affiliated to the provincial Chongqing University. 1943 After the provincial Chongqing University was changed to the national Chongqing University in the spring, the provincial sports institute moved to Chengdu. After moving to Chengdu, it rented Guo Li Art Museum in Sichuan as its office. In February of the following year, he moved to the Fifth Chengdu Middle School in Tongtangjie Province. At the beginning of 1950, the Provincial Institute of Physical Education was renamed Chengdu Institute of Physical Education. The school set up a three-year physical education institute, and 1953 added a two-year physical education institute. A 1 year training course for PE teachers and a training course for PE cadres were also held. 1954 The school was renamed Southwest Institute of Physical Education, led by the Sports Committee of Southwest Administrative Committee, and enrolled students in the southwest. In order to inherit and carry forward the medical skills of orthopedics and traumatology in Chinese medicine, our college established the first sports hospital in China on 1958, and opened two-year training courses in orthopedics and traumatology from 1 958 to 1959. 1960 college has established sports medicine research room, sports history research room and the first in China. This college suffered great damage in the "Cultural Revolution". 1978, enrolling four-year undergraduate students and restoring the Department of Sports Health Care (now renamed the Department of Sports Medicine, enrolling students nationwide). The college has gradually improved the educational structure and constructed a relatively complete training sequence for sports talents. Since the founding of New China, Chengdu Institute of Physical Education has trained tens of thousands of sports professionals for the country, including more than 8,000 undergraduates, junior college students and graduate students, which has made great contributions to improving the sports level in southwest China and promoting the development of mass sports and sports undertakings. The college has also trained more than 50 athletes and national athletes.
With the continuous development of sports, the college has built and purchased many stadiums and training equipment. There are indoor training halls for volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, table tennis, martial arts, fencing, etc., and 10 outdoor training grounds. The newly-built sports center laboratory, audio-visual education research room and sports rehabilitation center have complete sets of equipment for sports, training, scientific research video, shooting and editing, as well as teaching and scientific research equipment worth millions of yuan. The unique college library, with a construction area of more than 7,000 square meters, has 1000 kinds of Chinese and foreign newspapers and periodicals, and has a collection of more than 270,000 books.
The college has strengthened the construction of disciplines and teaching materials and paid attention to running its own characteristics. In addition to orthopedics and martial arts of traditional Chinese medicine, the teachers of sports history and sports physiology have a reasonable structure and rhythmic gymnastics, which has trained the first batch of master students in this subject in China. The above disciplines are listed as key disciplines of the State Sports Commission. In recent years, the college's textbook construction has also made remarkable achievements. There are more than 100 kinds of textbooks compiled by the college and participated in the national compilation, of which 19 kinds were selected as national compilation textbooks in whole or in part, and 1990 kinds won the national advanced prize for textbook construction issued by the State Education Commission.
In order to meet the requirements of the development of competitive sports, the college has attached great importance to sports training in recent years. Sports training majors and martial arts majors approved by the State Sports Commission and the State Education Commission are enrolled separately, and students with high sports skills are mainly selected and recruited. At the same time, the coach responsibility system has been implemented, training has been strengthened, and the sports technical level of the college has been steadily improved.
Chengdu Institute of Physical Education attaches great importance to sports science research. Since 1978, more than 600 academic papers have been published at home and abroad, and nearly 100 academic monographs have been edited and published.
