What are the categories of periodicals?
Abstract: What are the classifications of domestic periodicals? Broadly speaking, the classification of periodicals can be divided into informal periodicals and formal periodicals. The main purpose of periodical grading is to extract and highlight a few excellent key periodicals from all periodicals, so the grading level is generally not much, mostly 2-3, and a few are above 4. There are national journals, provincial journals, core journals and non-core journals. Let's take a look at how the periodical level is divided. First, the classification method of periodicals

1, roughly classified

Broadly speaking, the classification of periodicals can be divided into informal periodicals and formal periodicals. An informal periodical refers to a periodical that is approved by the administrative department to receive the "internal newspaper approval" as an intra-industry communication (generally limited to intra-industry communication and not publicly issued), but it is also a legal periodical. Generally speaking, formal journals have gone through the process of informal journals. Official periodicals shall be examined and approved by the Press and Publication Administration and the State Science and Technology Commission within the agreed number and incorporated into the "unified domestic serial number". The application for running a journal is relatively strict, which requires a certain publishing strength. Official periodicals have an independent publishing policy.

"Unified domestic serial number" is the abbreviation of "Unified domestic serial publication number", that is, "CN number", which is the code assigned to serial publications by the administrative department of press and publication. "International serial publication number" is the abbreviation of "international standard serial publication number", that is, "ISSN number", and most periodicals in China are equipped with "ISSN number".

China's law journals are divided into formal journals and informal journals;

1) official journal

Approved by the General Administration of Press and Publication and relevant state ministries and commissions within the agreed quota, and incorporated into the "Domestic Unified Serial Number". Official periodicals published at home and abroad have unified domestic serial numbers (CN) and international serial numbers (ISSN), which is the most basic symbol of official periodicals published in public.

The standard format of CN serial number is: CNXX-XXXX/x,

CN is the country name code of China, the first two digits are the region code, the last four digits are the serial numbers of the regional continuous publications, and the last letter is the classification number.

For example, the serial number of Reader magazine is CN62-118/z, 62 is the area code of Gansu Province, 1 165438 is its serial number, and z indicates that the magazine is a comprehensive publication. (Periodicals are classified according to the basic categories of China Library Classification (fourth edition))

2) Informal journals

Refers to the periodical that has been approved by the administrative department to receive the "internal reporting permit" as the internal communication of the industry, and may not be publicly issued.

2. Classification by discipline

Represented by China Library Classification and Periodical Classification Table, periodicals are divided into five basic categories: (1) Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought (2) philosophy, (3) social science, (4) natural science and (5) comprehensive publications. In the basic category, it is divided into several categories. For example, social science is divided into general social science, politics, military affairs, economy, culture, science, education, sports, language, writing, literature, art, history and geography.

3, according to the content classification

Taking the news and publication volume of Encyclopedia of China as the representative, the periodicals are divided into four categories: (1) general periodicals, which emphasize knowledge and interest and have a wide readership, such as People's Pictorial and Popular Movies in China, Time and Reader's Digest in the United States, etc. (2) Academic journals, mainly publishing academic papers, research reports, reviews and other articles, mainly for professional workers; (3) Industry periodicals, which mainly report the products, market conditions, management progress and trends of all walks of life, such as motorcycle information in China, Japanese furniture, office equipment and products. (4) Search periodicals, such as national newspaper index, national new bibliography, American chemical abstracts, etc.

4. Classification by academic status

It can be divided into core journals and non-core journals.

Core journals refer to authoritative journals that can best reflect the academic level of a certain discipline (or several fields), with a large amount of information and high utilization rate, and are widely valued.

The determination of core periodicals in China mainly adopts bibliometrics and expert consultation.

Peking University Publishing House 1992 published the Outline of Chinese Core Journals, and 1996 published the second edition. The second edition selects 1578 core periodicals from nearly 10,000 Chinese periodicals being published, and makes a brief introduction. On the basis of the second edition, the third edition was launched in 2000. Overview is an important reference book for us to understand the national core periodicals.

Understanding the core journals is of great significance. As far as editors are concerned, they can learn from core journals. As far as readers are concerned, establishing the consciousness of core periodicals can clarify the value orientation and improve their reading level. For example, students majoring in language and literature should first read core journals such as China Language and Literature Review, instead of putting the cart before the horse. As far as libraries are concerned, core periodicals are of course the first choice for subscription under the limited funds. As far as the scientific research management department is concerned, it can make statistical analysis of the papers published by units or individuals in core journals as an important indicator to measure their academic level. Therefore, people often aim at publishing articles in core journals.

Of course, core journals and non-core journals are not fixed. Non-core journals can rank among the core journals through hard work; If it stagnates, the core journals will also be eliminated.

Second, the classification of periodicals

There is no government department in the country to classify periodicals. The so-called periodical level is only the understanding of periodical catalogue launched by periodical industry and some social organizations. Although there is no classification in the country, the professional title evaluation department has requirements for the level of periodicals.

In the past, it was divided into first-class publications, second-class publications and third-class publications. At present, it is generally divided into "core journals and general journals", and in recent years, there are also local sub-core journals; Authority, importance, and core.

1, a provincial periodical

"Provincial" periodicals refer to periodicals sponsored by provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and their subordinate ministries, departments and bureaus, as well as journals (periodicals) sponsored by institutions of higher learning.

For example, the organizer of Shaanxi education is the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education.

2. National periodicals

"National" periodicals refer to publications sponsored by national ministries, national organizations, institutions, organs and academic institutions.

For example, the organizer of Modern Business: China National Business Information Center.

3. Core journals

At present, there are seven core journals (or source journals) selection systems in China, and all the journals in the catalogue of these source journals can be regarded as core journals.

Peking University Library's "Chinese Core Periodical";

Nanjing University "China Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI) Source Journal";

China Academy of Sciences Literature Information Center "China Science Citation Database (CSCD) Source Journals";

China Statistical Source Journal of Sci-tech Papers (also known as China Sci-tech Core Journal) by China Institute of Science and Technology Information;

China Core Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences, Document Information Center of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences;

China Humanities and Social Sciences Newspaper, Core Journal of China Humanities and Social Sciences Newspaper;

Wanfang data Co., Ltd. is building the "Selected Database of Core Journals in China".

At present, the core journals required by the professional title evaluation department are mainly "Chinese Core Journals" and "Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI) Source Journals". Very few evaluation units use "China Science Citation Database (CSCD) source journals".

Third, illegal publications.

Publications published without the approval of the administrative department of press and publication are illegal publications, specifically as follows:

1, illegal publication without serial number;

2. Illegal publications with forged serial numbers;

3. Illegal publications with fraudulent serial numbers;

4. Illegal publications with overseas serial numbers;

5. Illegal publications that completely use the names and numbers of other publications.

Today, there are a large number of illegal periodicals, and it is really not a simple matter to contribute. Receiving the manuscript is not necessarily a good thing. Maybe there is a trap waiting for you. The simplest and most practical method of verification is to log on to the website of the State Press and Publication Administration or call the provincial press and publication authorities.

There are many magazines that advertise directly on the Internet, especially medical and educational magazines. Don't contribute to them, such publications are generally fake, just go to the website of the Press and Publication Administration and check it out. Now all the regular magazines don't worry about the manuscript.
