Huazhong Normal University is a national key normal education and comprehensive research university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). It is the key construction unit of the innovation platform for advantageous disciplines in "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project", the first batch of units awarded doctor's and master's degrees by the state, the national pilot university for free education for normal students, and an important base for the state to train teachers and other senior professionals in middle and high schools.

The school is located on Guizi Mountain in Nanhu Lake, Wuchang, Wuhan City, Hubei Province. This is an institution of higher learning with a long history. Some of its departments can be traced back to 187 1, when the Anglican Church founded Wenhua College in Tanhualin, Wuhan. After several historical stages such as Huazhong University, Huazhong Normal University and Huazhong Normal University, it was officially named Huazhong Normal University on 1985.

In 2000, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tongji Medical University and Wuhan Urban Construction College were merged.
