The school was founded in 1883. In 2005, it was formed by the merger of old osaka prefecture university, Osaka Women's University and Osaka Nursing University. Osaka prefecture university is one of the famous public universities in Japan, ranking the third among Japanese public universities, just behind osaka city university and Tokyo Capital University.

Osaka prefecture university is also the only university in Feng Jingen with a veterinary discipline. Moreover, in April 2022, osaka city university and osaka prefecture university will merge into Osaka public university. The new university has a wide range of academic fields and is the largest public comprehensive university in China, with about16,000 students.

So in general, it is a good Japanese public university!
