This school used to be Chengdu Institute of Meteorology, formerly a subordinate unit of China Meteorological Bureau. Now it is jointly built by Sichuan Meteorological Bureau and China Meteorological Bureau. It is one of the only three meteorological colleges in China. The other two are Beijing Institute of Meteorology and Nanjing Institute of Meteorology, which have been merged into Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology.
The school also merged with the Sichuan Statistical School, which was originally owned by the National Bureau of Statistics. Therefore, meteorology and statistics are the strengths of this school, and the foundation of electronic information specialty is also very good, because according to the previous division of labor in the Meteorological Bureau, Chengdu Institute of Meteorology mainly trains talents in technical support such as atmospheric detection and communication. Seventy percent of the personnel in radar, communication and atmospheric sounding of the national meteorological system are alumni of this school.
Generally speaking, this school is more distinctive among the two universities and has certain industry advantages.
