The school, formerly known as Chongqing Electric Power Industry School, was established with the approval of the Central Ministry of Fuel Industry in May, 1953, and later renamed Chongqing Electric Power Industry School. September 1953 was renamed Chongqing Electric Power School. 1958 was renamed Chongqing Electric Power School. 1980 and 1994 were recognized as national key secondary specialized schools twice. 1995 was upgraded to a junior college with the approval of the state education commission, and it is the only electric power junior college in southwest China.
