Excerpts from notes:

1. Warmth is a powerful force to retain employees.

1) Rainier effect: The University of Washington, located in Seattle, USA, plans to build a gymnasium on Lake Washington campus, but it has aroused strong opposition from professors. Because once the gymnasium is built there, it just blocks the beautiful lake view that can be enjoyed from the window of the Forbidden City restaurant on campus. Compared with the average salary in the United States at that time, the salary of professors in Washington University was about 20% lower. They voluntarily accept such a low salary without obstacles to movement, entirely out of nostalgia for the lakes and mountains there. Seattle is located on the Pacific coast, dotted with lakes and other large and small waters. On sunny days, you can see Mount Rainier, one of the highest snow-capped mountains in America. They sacrificed the opportunity of getting higher income for the beautiful scenery, which was dubbed the Rainier effect by the professors in the economics department of Washington University.

2) Through the previous example, we found that 80% of the salaries of professors in Washington University are paid in the form of money, and 20% are compensated by a good natural environment. If building a gymnasium destroys the landscape, it means that the salary will be reduced by 20%, and professors will easily flow to other universities. It can be seen that only by knowing the real needs of employees can we retain talents, which is the famous Rainier effect.

3) At present, the competition of enterprises is mainly the competition of talents. Whether an enterprise can attract and retain talents becomes the key to its success. The beauty of Seattle can keep professors at Washington University. Similarly, enterprises can also attract and retain talents with warmth.

2. Humanized management to win people's hearts.

1) Rainier effect has important reference significance for enterprises to attract and retain talents. Only by showing your own human feelings can you achieve what people want and truly retain the hearts of employees. In other words, human feelings are an important reason for attracting and retaining talents.

2) When you treat employees humanely, the incentives they get are material rewards, which are far from being achieved. At the same time, you will also find that the more serious and complicated things seem, the more likely a simple truth will bring unexpected good results.

3) People are the most precious and unstable resources in an enterprise. When they are in a bad mood, dissatisfied with their leaders, colleagues, salaries, doubts about policies, antipathy to the system, and problems and difficulties in their lives, they will be depressed or absent-minded, which will directly affect the realization of enterprise goals. When you really care about employees and inject love into their communication, you will find that employees will regard labor as one of the means to enjoy a happy life and enterprises as a place to realize a happy life.

4) In short, the development of enterprises depends on talents. For business managers, don't be stingy to show people your sincere care and personal friendship.
