This major trains senior civil engineering technicians who are engaged in structural design of civil engineering, such as building construction, underground construction, roads, bridges, tunnels and urban light rail, basic design and foundation treatment of civil engineering, structural detection and testing of civil engineering, construction technology and project management of civil engineering. They have a solid theoretical foundation and extensive professional knowledge, and have been trained by civil engineers, and have strong innovative spirit and research and development application ability.

Graduation destination: I can engage in structural design, construction organization and management, quality monitoring and testing, technical consultation and service, project planning and investment decision-making in industrial and civil buildings, underground construction projects, roads and bridges, airport projects, transportation and other enterprises and institutions. You can also engage in scientific research and teaching of civil engineering in colleges and universities, and you can also engage in related administrative management, quality supervision and asset evaluation in relevant government departments.

Civil engineering major is listed as one of the first majors in South China University of Technology to implement the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan". This major (or similar major) has established an "excellent" all-English class (40 students) in civil engineering through entrance selection, which provides a higher platform for outstanding students with good English foundation. This course focuses on cultivating students' engineering practice ability and innovative consciousness, international vision and international communication ability, as well as internationally recognized research engineers or leading talents in the engineering field. After graduation, students can work in large and medium-sized international enterprises and institutions, continue to pursue professional or academic postgraduate studies, or participate in joint postgraduate training programs abroad.
