The school gives full play to the advantages of good foundation and comprehensive disciplines. While constantly improving the level of basic research, it is committed to solving theoretical and practical problems that need to be solved urgently in national economic construction. There are 2 national key laboratories, 2 national engineering technology research centers, more than 50 provincial key laboratories and engineering technology research centers. It has formed scientific and technological groups such as chemical engineering, civil engineering, architectural design, machinery manufacturing and vehicle engineering, electromechanical integration and automatic control, computer application technology, material science and engineering, and environmental engineering. Management science and engineering, international trade, finance, accounting, etc. They have become an important research force in the fields of management and economics, and the research of humanities and social sciences has shown a good momentum of development. The second phase of the "985 Project" focuses on the construction of "chemical biotechnology innovation platform", "advanced automobile design and manufacturing technology innovation platform", "modern structure and bridge technology innovation platform" and "economic opening and trade development philosophy and social science innovation base", and the scientific research strength has been further integrated and optimized.

It has undertaken 8947 scientific research projects at all levels, and won the first prize of national scientific and technological progress 1, the second prize of national natural science 1, the second prize of national technological invention 1, the second prize of national scientific and technological progress 16, and the third prize of outstanding achievements in humanities and social sciences in China universities. Among them, in 2006, it won 6 national science and technology awards, ranking first among universities in China. Since 2006, the school has successively won three innovation teams from the Ministry of Education, three national outstanding youth fund projects, two major national basic research projects (chief scientist of the "973 Plan") and more than 30 major national key projects (863 Plan and National Science and Technology Support Plan).
