Northeast Petroleum University (NEPU), located in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, is a university focusing on engineering, with the coordinated development of engineering, science, management, literature, economics, law, teaching and arts. 1978 was identified as one of the 88 national key universities.

The school is a high-level university jointly established by Heilongjiang Province, China Petroleum and Natural Gas Group Corporation, China Petrochemical Group Corporation and China Offshore Oil Corporation, and it is a key construction university in Heilongjiang Province. The predecessor of Northeast Petroleum University is Northeast Petroleum Institute and Daqing Petroleum Institute. The school originated from Tsinghua University Oil Refining Department, was bred in Beijing Petroleum Institute, and was born and developed in Daqing Oilfield.
