The school originated from 1933 Shanghai Private Dagong Vocational School. 1953, the first secondary specialized shipbuilding school in new China, Shanghai Shipbuilding Industry School, was established. It was moved to Zhenjiang in 1970, renamed Zhenjiang Shipbuilding Industry School in197/0/and upgraded to Zhenjiang Shipbuilding Industry College in 1978. The school was once managed by the former China State Shipbuilding Corporation. In 1999, it was adjusted to be jointly built by the central government and Jiangsu Province, with Jiangsu Province as the main management.
