His calligraphy is full of talent, boldness and literary spirit, which is profound in terms of book history, especially cursive script. Chen Hailiang cursive script originated in Ming and Qing Dynasties, especially benefited from Xu Wei's wild grass, so his cursive script emphasized the beauty of wild grass. In this respect, he consciously suppressed the expression of "two kings" that he mastered skillfully, and strived for the roughness and tension of lines, thus deducing the qi and potential of cursive script to a new height.

Born in Wudi, he has the wild temperament of Wumen calligrapher, which makes him have a natural affinity for Wumen and Xu Wei's wild calligraphy style in the middle and late Ming Dynasty. Zhu Zhishan's and Xu Wei's careless spirit are strongly manifested in his works. At the same time, Chen Hailiang is undoubtedly a talented person with cursive script, which is illustrated by his intuitive sensitivity to cursive script and his excellent grasp of visual space.
