The University of New Mexico was selected as a third-class national university by U.S. News and World Report, a two-star academic rating by new york Times University Guide, and "the 200 largest universities in the United States" by Yale University Journal University Guide. The school is listed as a top post-doctoral key research university by Carnegie Foundation, and it is the research base of NASA's space program.
The university is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with a population of about 500,000 and a long history. It is influenced by Indian, Spanish and African cultures, so the nearby area has quite a minority flavor. New Mexico is located in the heart of the southwestern United States, with convenient transportation and bearing the position of the transportation hub on both sides of the east and west.
