Here, I want to mention the history of Nankai University.

Nankai's predecessor was a private school.

It was founded by Yan Xiu, the father of Nankai and Tianjin educator. The school was originally located in Yanzhai. 1907, the school moved to a new site, Nankai depression, which was named Nankai from then on. So Nankai is Nankai depression, an open depression in the south of the city. Kaiwa is a Tianjin dialect, an open depression. In fact, apart from Nankai, Tianjin also has the names of Xikai and Beikai, all of which have the same meaning.
