Taiyuan University of Electric Power was founded in 1955, and 1997 was designated as a national key construction school of a model higher engineering college by the former State Education Commission. In 2000, the management system of Taiyuan Electric Power Institute was managed by the former Ministry of Electric Power, placed under the management of Shanxi Provincial Government, and jointly established by the central and local governments. With the approval of the Shanxi Provincial People's Government, engineering college of shanxi university was established jointly with Shanxi University, and now two brands are running at the same time.
The school is located in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province, covering an area of 243 mu, with a building area of187,000 square meters. The school has 10 undergraduate majors, 19 specialist majors, and 2 master majors: power system and its automation and control theory and control engineering. There are nearly 6,300 full-time undergraduates and postgraduates, and more than 3,000 adult education students. The school has 5 1 1 staff, 282 full-time teachers, 24 professors, 27 associate professors, 24 doctoral students and 33 masters. Over the past 50 years, the school has trained more than 40,000 graduates from our college and other industries. The school has 42 on-campus practice bases such as metalworking practice factory, electrical and electronic practice factory and off-campus practice bases closely related to majors and industries, and nearly 50 basic and professional laboratories. The total value of teaching and research instruments is nearly 70 million yuan. The school's simulation R&D and training center were approved by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security as "National Vocational Skills Appraisal Station for Centralized Control Operation of Thermal Power Generation of Large Units" and elected as the deputy director unit of the National Power Industry Simulation Training Cooperation Network by the China Power Enterprise Simulation Training Cooperation Network. In 2005, the school and 72 electric power enterprises and institutions jointly established the "School-enterprise Federation of Taiyuan University of Electric Power".

At the end of the 11th Five-Year Plan, under the guidance of Scientific Outlook on Development, the school cooperated with the Shuozhou Municipal Government to build the Shuozhou Campus of Taiyuan University of Electric Power (Shanxi Institute of Energy). The new campus covers an area of 1 0,283.02 mu, with a planned total construction area of 37 1 0,000 square meters, a total budgeted investment of 900 million yuan and a school scale of 1 0,000 students. The key construction projects in this province officially started on September 9, 2009, and are expected to be completed and put into use in September 20 12, making due outstanding contributions to the transformation, safe development, harmonious development and scientific development of our province.
