Overview of statistics: Statistics is a branch of applied mathematics. It mainly uses probability theory to establish mathematical model, collect observation data, make quantitative analysis and summary, and then make inference and prediction, so as to provide basis and reference for relevant decision-making.

The statistical direction mainly includes basic research direction and applied research direction. Statistics has gradually separated from the Department of Mathematics and become an independent department. Many schools have set up their own statistical departments.
