Chengdu University of Technology School was founded in 1956, formerly known as Chengdu Geological Exploration Institute. It was established on the basis of the engineering departments of Chongqing University, Northwest University and Nanjing University, and at the same time transferred some cadres and teachers from Beijing Institute of Geology and Northeast Institute of Geology. After the establishment of the school, the petroleum department, the second department and the third department of the former Beijing Institute of Geology moved in successively as organizational systems.
1958 was renamed Chengdu Institute of Geology. Postgraduate enrollment 1960. 198 1 became the first batch of master's degree awarding units in China, and 1984 won the right to award doctoral degrees. 1993 was renamed Chengdu University of Technology. 200 1 Chengdu University of Technology is approved by the Ministry of Education.
