Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, located in Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province, is a Class B construction university of Jiangsu Province's high-level university construction peak plan. It was jointly established by the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government and China Shipbuilding Corporation, and approved by the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government.

Colleges and universities with excellent engineer education and training plan of Ministry of Education, excellent schools with undergraduate teaching level evaluation of Ministry of Education, leading units of China Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering Industry Intellectual Property Alliance and Jiangsu Shipbuilding and Ocean Universities Collaborative Development Alliance.

The school originated from Shanghai Dagong Vocational School and was founded in 1933. On 1952, it was renamed as Shanghai Mechanical and Electrical Industry School. 1953 the department of machinery of Shanghai electromechanical industry school, the department of shipbuilding of Shanghai No.1 machinery manufacturing industry school, the department of marine engineering of Shanghai Fisheries College and the department of shipbuilding of Fuzhou Industrial School merged to form Shanghai Shipbuilding Industry School. Shanghai factory design school merged 196 1. 1970 moved to Zhenjiang and changed its name to Zhenjiang Shipbuilding Industry School.

1978 liters was renamed Zhenjiang Institute of Shipbuilding Industry, and 1993 was renamed East China Institute of Shipbuilding Industry. 1999 Jiangsu Jianghai Trade School was merged. 1999 the school was handed over to Jiangsu province for management by the former China State Shipbuilding Corporation. In 2000, the Institute of Sericulture of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences merged with the school. In 2004, the school was renamed Jiangsu University of Science and Technology.
