The Institute of Inorganic Non-metallic Materials (Institute of Biology and Information Materials) undertakes basic courses for undergraduates and postgraduates such as materials science, materials research methods, inorganic materials technology, and new glass-ceramics materials. In the direction of functional materials, it has a school-level academic echelon of Tongji University to carry out research on biomaterials, nonlinear optical materials, functional ceramic materials and glass-ceramics processing engineering. It enjoys an important position in the fields of biological glass microspheres, drug carriers, biological bone cement, thermomagnetic cancer treatment materials, gas-sensitive ceramic materials, antibacterial materials, thermal computer simulation of glass furnaces, raw materials and production process control in glass factories, and glass deep processing technology. In recent years, it has undertaken 1 863 project, 4 national natural science foundation projects, 2 Shanghai natural science foundation projects, Shanghai nano-special fund projects and Shanghai automobile industry development fund projects, among which medical glass microspheres as high-energy carriers have reached the international advanced level and won the gold medal of Shanghai Science and Technology Expo and the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award successively.
The Institute of Inorganic Nonmetallic Materials (Institute of Biological and Information Materials) has carried out extensive cooperation with relevant universities, scientific research units and enterprises at home and abroad, engaged in teaching, scientific research and product development in the field of new materials, and trained doctors, masters of engineering and a large number of undergraduates in inorganic materials, and achieved considerable results.
