Shaanxi University of Science and Technology &; Technology), located in Xi, the capital of Shaanxi Province, is the only multi-disciplinary university in western China featuring light industry. Founded by China Light Industry Federation, China Light Industry Group Corporation and Shaanxi Provincial Government, it is one of the national "Basic Capacity Building Projects for Universities in the Midwest" and one of the provincial high-level universities in Shaanxi Province. The school is the first light industry institution of higher learning in People's Republic of China (PRC). Founded in 1958, it was then named Beijing Institute of Light Industry.
