I. Introduction to the College
1958- Wuhan Institute of Surveying and Mapping was placed under the management of the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping and renamed Wuhan Institute of Surveying and Mapping.
1978- Wuhan Institute of Surveying and Mapping was approved by the state as a national key university.
19851October-Wuhan Institute of Surveying and Mapping was renamed Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping.
1993- The former Department of Geodesy and the Department of Engineering Survey of Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping merged to form a geodetic project.
August 2000-The Ministry of Education merged and reorganized the former Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping, the former Wuhan University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power, the former Hubei Medical University and the former Wuhan University to form a new Wuhan University. Under the organizational system of the new Wuhan University, the School of Surveying and Mapping Science and Technology of Wuhan University was established on the basis of the original School of Surveying and Mapping Engineering.
September 2006 5438+0- renamed as: College of Surveying and Mapping and Geographic Information.
Second, the professional introduction
(1) Geophysics major
Geophysics is a natural science that studies the physical phenomena of the earth system, which comes from physics. It's a first-class interdisciplinary subject of physics, geology, atmospheric science, marine science and astronomy. Includes solid geophysics and space physics, covering space physics, atmospheric physics, earth interior physics, geodynamics, geotectonic physics, exploration geophysics and environmental geophysics. Geophysics major in our college is an interdisciplinary geophysics major integrating solid geophysics and modern surveying and mapping technology. Train students to master geophysical fields such as geodesy, gravity field, geomagnetic field, geoelectric field, geothermal field and seismic wave field, and master the basic theories, observation instruments, observation methods and data processing methods of structural geology and exploration geophysical technology. Senior professionals who can independently complete various geophysical observation and data processing tasks, have good scientific research literacy and preliminary teaching and research ability, and can engage in scientific research, teaching, technology development and management in scientific research institutions, universities or related technical administrative departments.
Main courses: geophysical principles, gravity mechanics, seismology, geomagnetism, seismic exploration, applied geophysics, general geology, tensor analysis and elasticity, geoelectricity, geothermal energy, crustal deformation, introduction to earth science, mathematical and physical equations and special functions, field theory, etc.
Application scope of graduates: graduates can work in institutions of higher learning, scientific research institutes, seismological bureaus, surveying and mapping bureaus, geological departments, geophysical exploration departments and related engineering departments. The employment situation of graduates is good.
