The Present Situation of Jin Chen in Shanghai Jiaotong University
In recent years, the continuous pressure from the United States on Huawei has caused a heavy blow to Huawei's chip industry, and the whole chip industry in China has also been seriously hindered.

However, while we are extremely indignant at the suppression of Huawei by the United States, have we ever thought about it?

In fact, many years ago, in China's chip research career, there was a major fraud by one person, which made the Chinese people even more chilling!

This is the sensational "Hanxin" scam!

So, what is the "Hanxin" scam? Now, let me tell you slowly.

Let me briefly introduce the protagonist of the "Hanxin" scam: Professor Jin Chen, Dean of the School of Microelectronics, Shanghai Jiaotong University.

Jin Chen, from Fujian, China, was born in 1968.

During his college years, Jin Chen studied at Tongji University. After graduating from college, Jin Chen went to the United States to study, and received her master's and doctor's degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.

After receiving his Ph.D., Jin Chen immediately joined Motorola in the United States to take charge of chip design.

Because of his outstanding performance in the follow-up work, Jin Chen won the "Outstanding Achievement Award" and the Crystal Award twice in a row.

200 1, Jin Chen returned to China and became a highly educated returnee.

At that time, China attached great importance to highly educated returnees, so Jin Chen quickly joined Shanghai Jiaotong University and was responsible for the establishment of the Chip and System Research Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University.

However, no one expected that it was in this position that Jin Chen conducted a major chip research fraud in 2003!

On February 26th, 2003, an unprecedented press conference was held in Shanghai.

Shanghai's major official units, as well as a scientific research team composed of many well-known academicians and the heads of the "863 Program" integrated circuit special group, were all present.

Why is this conference so grand?

That's because a scientific research achievement that "shocked" China and "shocked" the world was born in Shanghai Jiaotong University.

This famous scientific research achievement is "Hanxin No.1" developed by Jin Chen.

What was Hanxin No.1 at that time?

According to official data, Hanxin-1 adopts the internationally advanced 0. 18 micron semiconductor process design, including 2.5 million devices, and has an internationally advanced 32-bit processing core, which can calculate 200 million times per second.

After many experts' tests, they agreed that:

"Hanxin No.1" has outstanding performance, which is very close to the international advanced chip technology and even exceeds the international advanced products in some aspects.

Such a "huge" scientific research achievement is of course serious.

With a large number of official reports, "Hanxin No.1" was once called the first in China, which was a milestone in the field of microelectronics in China, and also became another great pride of China people after "two bombs and one satellite".

Jin Chen, the inventor of Hanxin No.1, soon became famous all over the country.

Soon after, Jin Chen was promoted from an ordinary professor to the dean of the School of Microelectronics of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and became a "Changjiang Scholar" that many young talents have been striving for but never got.

In addition, a variety of dazzling honorary titles and related positions followed.

For example, director of the Chip and System Research Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University, director of the Information Security Chip Research Institute of Shanghai Jiaotong University, an expert in integrated circuit design in the field of information technology, and a leading figure in science and technology entrepreneurship in Shanghai.

Jin Chen applied for a number of national patents by virtue of "Hanxin No.1", and also defrauded a large number of scientific research funds allocated by the state.

After the launch of Hanxin-1, Jin Chen took advantage of this east wind and successively launched Hanxin-2, Hanxin-3 and Hanxin-4.

According to relevant statistics, from "Hanxin No.1" to "Hanxin No.4", Jin Chen not only won numerous honors, but also cheated billions of national research funds.

However, although Jin Chen seems to have unlimited scenery, it is always difficult to cover up its despicable behavior of major scientific research fraud.

On June 65438+1October 65438+July 2006, the "Hanxin" scam was finally exposed and it was discovered.

On June 5438+1October 65438+July, 2006, an anonymous netizen posted on the Tsinghua Forum in Shui Mu, Tsinghua University, exposing Professor Jin Chen, Dean of the School of Microelectronics, Shanghai Jiaotong University, who had committed major academic fraud.

This post quickly caught people's attention. With the joint intervention of netizens and the media, the official quickly entered the investigation procedure of the incident.

A month later, on February 18, 2006, after many investigations, the official finally announced the investigation results: the fact that Jin Chen "Hanxin No.1" was forged was basically true.

The jaw-dropping scam in the history of China's chip industry has also been uncovered.

According to the official investigation results, Jin Chen's "Hanxin" series chips have serious counterfeiting and deception.

On February 26th, 2003, about three years ago, Jin Chen released "Hanxin No.1" at a press conference, which was not Jin Chen's own scientific research achievement.

In fact, the so-called "Hanxin No.1" touted at that time was actually bought by Jin Chen from the United States, and the original logo on the surface of the chip was rubbed off by sandpaper, and the logo of "Hanxin" was "developed".

So in essence, this chip is still American, but the logo on it is replaced by "Hanxin".

"Hanxin II" is designed and manufactured by Hanxin Company on the basis of customized DSP soft core commissioned by American company. "Hanxin II" has no core technology, just a simple OEM.

"Hanxin 3" is a simple expansion on the basis of "Hanxin 2" without any substantive innovation. Hanxin Company claims that "Hanxin III" has reached the international high-end level, which is pure fiction and fabrication.

"Hanxin No.4" also seriously exaggerates the facts, which is seriously inconsistent with the "major innovation" described by Hanxin Company itself. It is a real fraud and deception.

From "Hanxin No.1" to "Hanxin No.4", Jin Chen seriously deceived the relevant state units, many academicians and experts, as well as the China media and the public through counterfeiting.

Jin Chen's chip research fraud not only won him numerous honorary titles and senior positions, but also won billions of national research funds.

This is a chip research fraud event with great influence, which has brought immeasurable negative influence to the development of the whole chip industry in China.

After the investigation results came out, Jin Chen was severely punished by Shanghai Jiaotong University and relevant state units.

Jin Chen's position as Dean of the School of Microelectronics of Shanghai Jiaotong University and his qualification as a professor of Shanghai Jiaotong University were both revoked by Shanghai Jiaotong University.

The Ministry of Science and Technology terminated all scientific research projects in Jin Chen and prohibited Jin Chen from applying for scientific research projects in the future;

The Ministry of Education also cancelled the title of "Changjiang Scholar" that many people dreamed of, and cancelled his qualification to enjoy special government allowances.

The National Development and Reform Commission also cancelled the high-tech industrialization project that Jin Chen was responsible for, and recovered a large amount of scientific research funds allocated to him over the years.

At that time, Jin Chen, once a high-profile scientific research star, instantly fell to the bottom and became a counterfeiter reviled by everyone.

The great changes and rapid changes are really jaw-dropping.

For a long time, the United States-led western countries have imposed a strict technical blockade on China. The chip industry is particularly serious.

In the past ten years, under the leadership of the incumbent, Huawei has made great achievements in the chip industry.

However, from the beginning of the Sino-US trade war, the United States began to increase its suppression and sanctions against Huawei.

Affected by the ban of the US Department of Commerce, many large international companies that have cooperated with Huawei have begun to terminate their cooperation with Huawei and gradually draw a clear line with Huawei.

Huawei's chip industry, which was finally established, has also been greatly hindered.

However, while we are indignant at the suppression and sanctions imposed by the United States on Huawei, are we even more chilling about what Chen and his colleagues have done?

People like Jin Chen's "Hanxin" scam, for their own honor and interests, do not hesitate to resort to deceit and seriously deceive the country, the media and the public.

This really makes people more indignant!

Should we be alert to the "Hanxin" scam?

In addition, in fact, we should also have a good understanding of our scientific research mentality.

Why did Chen deceive so many relevant state units and many academicians and experts in full view?

One of the important reasons is that the scientific research mentality at that time was impetuous.

Because the United States has suppressed China's chip industry for a long time, China is eager for independent chips.

It is precisely because of this that once someone announced the development of a high-end independent chip, academicians and experts also relaxed their vigilance and did not conduct further detailed investigations.

However, no one expected that Jin Chen dared to be so bold and make such a jaw-dropping and extremely serious chip research fraud.

But for the timely exposure of the whistleblower, Chen and others don't know when they will cheat.

Scientific research is a rigorous and serious undertaking that needs a long time, and it cannot be impetuous and false.

Therefore, our road to chip research is doomed to be very long and arduous, and we need to have enough understanding of it.

Jin Chen's "Hanxin" scam is a very serious scam in the history of China's chip industry. Because of this incident, everyone's enthusiasm for localization has gradually faded.

There are many reasons why Chen and his colleagues cheat in chip research, which deserves our deep reflection.

Finally, I still want to repeat: Jin Chen's chip research fraud is actually more chilling to the people of China than the suppression and sanctions imposed on Huawei by Americans!

I hope this incident can serve as a lesson for the future.
