Bowling originated in the 3rd-4th century A.D., and "Nine Pillars Play" is considered as the predecessor of modern bowling. "Jiuzhuxi" was an elegant game popular among European aristocrats at that time. People put nine pillars in the corridor of the church and then hit them with balls.

1895 September, American Bowling Association (ABC) was established. In order to facilitate the bowling pins to be knocked down continuously, the association decided to change the arrangement of bowling balls from diamond to inverted triangle, and formulated standard bowling equipment and other related rules. Since then, bowling has become a formal sport.

From June 65438 to September 0946, AMF Company developed a fully automatic bottle-making machine, which pushed bowling into a new era. 1952, the International Bowling Association (FIQ) was established with its headquarters in Helsinki, Finland. It advocates and promotes the development of this sport with the Olympic spirit as its purpose. From 65438 to 0974, bowling was listed as an official event of the Asian Games. 1988, bowling was listed as a performance event in the 24th Seoul Olympic Games. 1992, bowling was listed as an official event for the first time at the 25th Barcelona Olympic Games.

At present, the World Bowling Association has more than 100 member countries and holds large-scale bowling competitions frequently every year. In Japan, there are more than 30 domestic competitions named after industries, such as "News Cup". Professional bowlers often live in air travel and competitions every day.

Bowling in China started around 1920, and original bowling lanes were established in Shanghai, Tianjin and Beijing. These primitive fairways, which use manual bottle placing and manual ball picking, are just a super-enjoyable leisure sport for the rich and nobles.

After liberation, bowling was once regarded as a bourgeois form of entertainment, which made the sport banned for a long time. After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, with the new trend of "reform and opening up", bowling has been vigorously developed in China. 19811February, Shanghai Jinjiang Hotel cooperated with American AMF Company to build six automatic bowling lanes, which is considered as the origin of modern bowling in China. At present, there are more than 3,000 bowling alleys and 30,000 bowling lanes in China, and the development speed is accelerating, which is deeply loved by teenagers and gradually becomes one of the fashion sports for college students.
