Northeast Li Dian University is located in the scenic Jilin City, Jilin Province. The school is a key university in Jilin Province, founded in 1949. It is the first electric power engineering school founded by China Production Party. 1958 was named Jilin electric power institute, and 1978 was renamed northeast china institute of electric power.

The school was originally affiliated to the Ministry of Electric Power and the State Power Company.
