Xinjiang Normal University is a key normal college in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It was established on 1978 and 12 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. Its predecessor was Urumqi No.1 Normal School and Xinjiang Normal College. Xinjiang Normal University is one of the first newly-built universities in China after the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, bathed in the spring breeze of the reform and opening up of the party and the country.

The teaching area of the school covers an area of 2,435 mu and is divided into three campuses: Wenquan, Kunlun and Wenguang, which are located at Guan Jing Road 100 in Shuimogou District, Xinyi Road 102 in Shayibak District and Kashi East Road 16 in Xincheng District. Hot spring campus is the main campus and administrative center of the school. The teaching area covers an area of 1994 mu and undertakes the education and training of undergraduate and graduate students majoring in liberal arts and preparatory education.
Kunlun campus is now mainly responsible for undergraduate and graduate students in science and engineering and art, as well as continuing education, distance education, teacher and cadre training, international student education and other tasks; Wenguang Campus mainly undertakes the task of training specialized personnel.
