Founded in 1929, the school put forward the vision of building a "comprehensive and profound university" and developed into a comprehensive university with complete disciplines of arts, science, business and forensic medicine in the 1940s. 1952 after the adjustment of the national departments, it has become a multidisciplinary university with engineering as the mainstay. 1960 was identified as a national key university.
After the reform and opening-up, the school has undergone comprehensive recovery, adjustment and reform, and has become an industry-oriented and multidisciplinary university with coordinated development. 1998 was approved as a national "2 1 1 project" to build a key university. In 2000, the former chongqing jianzhu university and Chongqing Architecture Colleges merged with Chongqing University to form the new Chongqing University, 200 1, which became the key construction university of the "985 Project". In 20 17, it was selected as the national "World-class University Construction University (Class A)", and in 2022, it was selected as the second round of "Double-class" University Construction.
The school has a complete range of disciplines, covering science, engineering, economics, management, law, literature, history, philosophy, medicine, teaching, arts 1 1. There are 7 departments, 35 colleges and 7 affiliated hospitals. There are more than 5,300 faculty members and 50,000 students, including 24,000 graduate students and 26,000 undergraduate students. The campus covers an area of more than 5,300 mu, including A campus, B campus, C campus, Huxi campus and Liangjiang campus.
It was selected as the first batch of 10 pilot universities for the comprehensive reform of "three rounds of education", the first batch of 20 universities for the innovation and development center of ideological and political work in universities, the first batch of 10 national colleges of outstanding engineers, 10 "special project for training high-level talents urgently needed by energy storage technology countries" and the national innovation platform for the integration of production and education of energy storage technology.
We will continue to deepen the reform of the training system and mechanism, carry out special pilot projects for the training of doctoral students in scientific research funds and engineering, vigorously implement the "Action Plan for the High-quality Development of Postgraduate Education", and create excellent postgraduate education.
