Feng Duan (1923 June1-2020 June1February 15) was born in Suzhou, Jiangsu, and his native place was Shaoxing, Zhejiang. 1934 Feng Duan entered the middle school of Suzhou middle school; 1938 High School attended Fuzhou Middle School in Fujian Province; 1946 Graduated from the Physics Department of the School of Science of Central University, and stayed as a teacher; After the Central University was renamed Nanjing University from 65438 to 0949, Feng Duan worked as a lecturer, associate professor, professor and doctoral supervisor in the Department of Physics.

1980 was elected as a member (academician) of the Department of Mathematical Physics of China Academy of Sciences; 1984 was appointed as the first dean of the graduate school of Nanjing University; 65438-0985, Director of State Key Laboratory of Solid Microstructure Physics and Director of Academic Committee of Nanjing University. 199 1 year, as the chairman of the Chinese Physical Society; 1992: Member of the Standing Committee and Deputy Director of the Department of Mathematics and Physics of China Academy of Sciences; 1993 was elected as an academician of the Third World Academy of Sciences; 1996 member of the presidium of China academy of sciences.

Feng Duan's main research contents include metal physics, material science, condensed matter physics and nanotechnology. In the study of dislocation of body-centered cubic refractory metal, the law of dislocation line imaging by corrosion method was found. Editor-in-Chief of China's first monograph Metal Physics. Many important achievements have been made in the study of defects and domain boundaries in complex oxide crystals, and a new type of artificially modulated structural material with excellent nonlinear optics has been developed.

According to the website of Nanjing University, Feng Duan died in Nanjing on February 5, 2020 at the age of 98.
