Hubei is the hometown of Li Shizhen, a famous physician. Hubei University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, founded in 1958, is the only undergraduate college of traditional Chinese medicine in Hubei Province. Its predecessor was Hubei Traditional Chinese Medicine School, which was founded in 1954. In 2003, the former Hubei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine merged with the former Hubei Institute of Drug Control to form a new Hubei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was renamed Hubei University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in March 20 10.
