Shenyang Normal University, affiliated to Liaoning Provincial People's Government, was founded in 195 1, formerly known as Northeast Institute of Education, and renamed as shenyang normal College in 1953. It was one of the earliest two undergraduate normal universities in Northeast China at that time. 1965 changed its name to Liaoning first normal college, and 1978 restored the name of shenyang normal college.
In 2000, the school successfully built a new campus, which laid a solid foundation for its development. In 2002, the Liaoning Provincial Government decided and approved by the Ministry of Education, shenyang normal College and Liaoning Education College merged to form Shenyang Normal University.
