At the beginning of the new century, medicine once again took root in Tongji University. On the basis of the former Shanghai Railway University Medical College, Tongji University Medical College was established.

Since then, the medical specialty of Tongji University has become a key discipline and embarked on the road of rejuvenation. Tongji University Medical College devotes itself to cultivating top-notch innovative medical talents with a sense of social responsibility through the talent training mode of "subsection requirements, through training, adherence to standards and reasonable diversion", leading the discipline development and international competitiveness.

The medical college consists of hospital management department, basic medical college, institute of biomedical engineering and nano-science, nursing department and rehabilitation department. The college has a major in stomatology.

In order to explore the innovative development path of Tongji medical science, in recent years, Tongji University has focused its medical development on stem cells, tumors, brain and spinal cord, heart and other major fields that meet the major needs of the country and have promising future development prospects, in combination with the world's medical development frontier, future trends and national needs.

On 20 10, "Advanced Institute of Translational Medicine" was established, and translational medicine centers were set up in affiliated hospitals, focusing on four major directions. On the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of the school 1 10, relying on the characteristic medical resources of affiliated hospitals, we will build four research centers, namely stem cells, encephalomyelitis, cardiovascular diseases and tumor biotherapy, and adopt a flexible dual-employment mechanism to deepen the close cooperation between basic research and clinical application.

With the in-depth implementation of this strategy, Tongji University has made great achievements in the field of stem cells and translational medicine. Tongji University Stem Cell Research Center has become an important part of Shanghai Science and Technology Innovation Center.
