North university of china is an institution of higher learning with a glorious history. Its predecessor was Taihang Industrial School, which was the first ordnance school established by the Eighth Route Army General Command in Taihang Anti-Japanese Base Area in 194 1. After the battle baptism of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation, it has gone through many vicissitudes. On the 60th anniversary celebration of the school in 200 1 year, Bo Yibo wrote the inscription "The First School of People's Ordnance Industry" for the school.

1949, the school moved to its present location and changed its name to North China Ordnance Vocational School. Later it was named North China Ordnance Industry School and Taiyuan Machinery Manufacturing Industry School. 1958 upgraded to Taiyuan Institute of Mechanical Engineering. With the approval of the State Council and the Central Military Commission, all the teachers, students, experimental equipment, and books and materials of four conventional weapons majors (artillery, automatic weapons, ammunition, and fuzes) of Beijing Institute of Technology (now Beijing Institute of Technology) moved in on 196 1.

From 65438 to 0999, with the reform of university management system, the school became a local university founded by the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the Shanxi Provincial People's Government, which marked that the school entered a new stage of development.
