Hu Jingfu (1896- 1972)

Formerly known as Zongquan, his pen name is Hu Lie. I was born in Shanghai and my ancestral home is Sanshui. 19 17 graduated from Soochow university. 65438-0920 studied in the United States and obtained a doctorate in philosophy from Cornell University. 1922 After returning to China, he has been a lecturer in biology in Tsinghua University, a technician in Jiangsu Insect Bureau, a professor in Southeast Nanjing University, Soochow University in Suzhou, Guanghua University in Shanghai and yenching university. Visiting Professor, Department of Entomology, Cornell University, USA. He was once hired as an academician of Academia Sinica. After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), he served as a member of the Biology Department of China Academy of Sciences, a professor of China Academy of Military Medical Sciences, a distinguished member of China Academy of Sciences, and the editorial board of Animal Atlas of China.

He devoted his life to biological research and education, and was one of the founders of entomology in China. He is the author of Insect Catalogue of China, Invertebrates, aquatic insects of China, etc. China stonefly and China Insect Catalogue are one of China's great entomological works, which record 20069 species of insects belonging to 4968 genera and 392 families in 25 orders. During the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, he was commended for participating in the investigation of anti-bacterial warfare.

1955 was elected as a member of China Academy of Sciences.

Zhou Yao

He has successively established the Insect Fun Club, Tianze Insect Research Institute and Tianze Publishing House, and edited such academic publications as Interesting Insects, China Journal of Entomology, China Insects, Journal of Insect Taxonomy and Animal World.

He has written more than 200 papers and monographs on entomology, including History of Entomology in China, Records of Scallops in China, Classification and Identification of Butterflies in China, and edited Records of Butterflies in China and Basis of Agricultural Entomology.
