In the author's expectation, as an undergraduate, we should give a clear answer to this, at least we should not be confused, hesitant and ambiguous. Besides, these middle schools have all studied, so there should be no such dilemma. After questioning, I know that many non-liberal arts majors in universities now take college Chinese as an elective course. As a result, many students think that Chinese is useless to their major and are unwilling to make further efforts for it.
Chinese is to cultivate people's ability of language expression, writing and reading comprehension. It is a compulsory course for great men through the ages, especially literature and art, to nourish the soul, cultivate humanistic feelings, stimulate beautiful imagination and sublimate the realm of life, which is also a remarkable feature of cultivating world-class talents.
In fact, humanities and natural sciences have always been inseparable. In ancient China, there was no distinction between arts and sciences in culture. All kinds of knowledge such as literature, history, philosophy, astronomy and geography were often integrated into the blood of literature, and even scientific works pursued the expression of "literary interest". Looking at China culture, the endless literary torrent in the Chinese civilization with a long history of 5,000 years is an amazing and gorgeous landscape. From pre-Qin hundred schools of thought to Tang and Song poetry and novels in Ming and Qing Dynasties, the wisdom and spirit of China literati built a cultural monument and achieved the peak of China literature. Their classics have become the precious spiritual wealth of Chinese civilization, and the encyclopedic knowledge contained in a literary masterpiece A Dream of Red Mansions is an amazing cultural mine.
Because Chinese teaching has not been given due attention, college students lack a correct understanding of China's language and writing, and lack sufficient learning motivation. Some students think that in the rapidly developing information age, mobile phones can surf the Internet at any time, and words and classic sentences that you can't remember or don't know can be found at your fingertips, so don't worry. Up to now, a few college students can't write Chinese characters well with pens, their ability to use words is getting worse and worse, and their reading interest tends to be networked. This is not conducive to the absorption of "breast milk culture" and the growth of healthy personality. From Oracle Bone Inscriptions to today's Chinese characters, Chinese characters not only record the wisdom of working people, but also bear the history of China. Their own interpretation is also the crystallization of China's cultural development. Square Chinese characters contain rich labor wisdom, which engraves the cultural footprints of our ancestors, just like the "chips" of each culture, and also shows the personal cultural temperament. Furthermore, the connotation of culture is carried by language, and the blood of civilization lies in the spirit and character of excellent literary works. Without the "spiritual fermentation" of language and excellent works, it is difficult to appreciate the charm of culture and the power of culture to sublimate the soul.
The inheritance and development of culture depends on labor creation and ideological sublimation, and on the recognition and confidence of Chinese people in national culture. In today's multi-cultural collision in the world, only by taking the root of life deeply into the soil of national culture and keeping fit with the nourishment of breast milk culture can we gain a firm foothold in the tide of cultural development, boldly absorb the nutrients of advanced cultures of various countries, carry forward national culture in inheritance and innovation, and keep Chinese culture young forever. Therefore, the author thinks that college Chinese should make more efforts to this end.
