Before 1999, university discipline education was referred to as junior college.

The Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Ministry of Finance of People's Republic of China (PRC) put forward the plan to build high-level vocational schools and majors with China characteristics. Since 20 19, the Ministry of Education has concentrated on building about 50 high-level vocational schools and 150 high-level professional groups.
