From 65438 to 0896, Sheng Xuanhuai, a famous industrialist and educator in modern China, founded Nanyang Public School in Shanghai, and Wang Wenshao, governor of Zhili and minister of Beiyang in Qing Dynasty, founded Shanhaiguan Beiyang Railway Official School. These two veins are the earliest sources of Jiaotong University.
Jiaotong University is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning in the history of modern education in China. In the course of 1.20 years, it has formed an excellent school spirit and a glorious tradition. In the 1920s and 1930s, it has become a comprehensive and famous institution of higher learning, enjoying a high reputation at home and abroad. Shanghai School (now Anjian Jiaotong University and Shanghai Jiaotong University) is called Oriental Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tang School (now Southwest Jiaotong University) is called Oriental Cornell School, Pingpai School (now Beijing Jiaotong University), and Hsinchu Jiaotong University, which was rebuilt in Taiwan, is collectively called China Jiaotong University No.5 School.

The origin of the school name
On the one hand, the traffic of Jiaotong University originated from the communication between heaven and earth in the Book of Changes, and on the other hand, the competent department in the Republic of China was the Ministry of Communications. On the one hand, the traffic of Yijing covers all directions through the ages. On the other hand, the functions of the Ministry of Communications of the Republic of China include not only tangible transportation such as public utilities and road administration, but also intangible transportation such as trade, foreign exchange, postal services, telecommunications and tourism.
These two kinds of intentional flows imply that Jiaotong University is a comprehensive university. At the beginning of its establishment, Shanghai Jiaotong University (now Shanghai, Xi 'an and Hsinchu Jiaotong University) was positioned to train talents in business, law, politics and economics, which complemented the special work of Beiyang University. Tangshan Jiaotong University (now Southwest Jiaotong University) is especially good at mining and metallurgy, and has also trained many famous experts in materials, mathematics, economics, climatology, geology, aerospace engineers and so on.
