College is the highest music institution in Shandong Peninsula, located in Qingdao, a famous coastal city in China, at the foot of Fushan Mountain, with beautiful scenery. The college, formerly known as the Music Department of Qingdao Normal University, was established in 1984. Later, the college was upgraded to a normal college, and 1993 was merged into Qingdao University. In 2003, the college obtained a master's degree in musicology. In August 2004, it was renamed "Conservatory of Music".
The college has eight departments, namely, Music Department, Music Education Department, Composition Department, Vocal Music Department, Orchestral Department, Folk Music Department, Keyboard Department and Dance Department. There are student symphony orchestras, choirs, folk orchestras, chamber orchestras, dance teams and other music practice performance groups, aiming at consolidating theoretical teaching through practice and displaying teaching results through the stage.
