As pointed out in the Outline of Education Reform and Development in China, the development of higher education "should distinguish different regions, disciplines and schools, and determine development goals and priorities. Formulate the classification standards of colleges and universities and corresponding policies and measures, so that all types of schools can rationally divide their work and create their own characteristics at their respective levels. " Indeed, it is impossible for any university to run all disciplines, and it is impossible to maintain a first-class level in all disciplines. Colleges and universities must make full use of their own school-running resources and take their own unique road. We should not blindly pursue perfection in the basic goals of discipline construction, talent training and school scale, but concentrate limited resources, aim at regional economic and social needs, make breakthroughs in some aspects of talent knowledge structure and ability system, and form characteristics and brands.
The characteristics of a school are influenced and restricted by many subjective and objective factors, and gradually formed in the long-term process of running a school. The final result is directly reflected in the quality of students trained, scientific research achievements and the contribution made by the school to promoting social progress and economic development. We should find out the comparative advantages from the academic advantages and scientific research strength of our school, highlight our own characteristics and choose our own main direction, so as to be competitive and have our own room for survival and development. ?
The relationship between current development and long-term planning. The development of higher education must have long-term consideration, firmly establish the idea of comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development, and cannot be eager for quick success, quenching thirst by drinking poison, and rushing for success. Judging from the development of first-class universities abroad, whether there is a macro, strategic and long-term plan fundamentally determines the reform and development of a school. Therefore, the Ministry of Education issued an action plan to revitalize education from 2003 to 2007. When making development strategic plans, colleges and universities must, according to the requirements of Scientific Outlook on Development, give consideration to both the immediate and the long-term, combine the far and the near, make overall plans, and correctly handle the relationship between the immediate and the long-term.
