How to cultivate students' awareness of safety and environmental protection in chemical experiment teaching
First, the importance of cultivating students' awareness of safety and environmental protection

1. Paying attention to the cultivation of safety awareness is the premise to ensure the smooth development of experimental teaching. Glass instruments are commonly used in chemical experiments, and they are often exposed to strong corrosive drugs such as acid and alkali. There are indeed many hidden dangers in students' experiments, which are easy to cause light or heavy experimental accidents. In fact, as we all know, as long as most students do experiments in strict accordance with the correct operation, there will generally be no injury accidents, and the danger comes from irregular operation. As long as our teachers take precautions, pay attention to safety education and improve students' safety awareness, we can fundamentally put an end to the occurrence of experimental injury accidents and ensure the smooth progress of experimental teaching.

2. Paying attention to the cultivation of environmental awareness is the responsibility given to education by society. The environmental situation in China is not optimistic. Air pollution and water pollution have brought disastrous effects on people's production and life. Therefore, improving national environmental awareness has been put on the important agenda of national education. Cultivating students' environmental awareness is a very important thing for the future. As a teacher, we must first realize the lack of environmental awareness of the next generation. In addition to teaching them experimental skills, we should also vigorously cultivate their environmental awareness for their high-quality living environment in the future.

Second, some suggestions on cultivating students' awareness of safety and environmental protection.

1. Strengthening experimental reform should start with teaching materials, which are the basis of teachers' teaching. Judging from the current chemistry textbooks in China, the compilation of students' experiments generally consists of objectives, principles, instruments, drugs and steps. I think safety and environmental protection should be added appropriately. In this respect, the American chemistry experiment textbook "Exploration in Chemistry" has given us great enlightenment. All the experiments in this book are composed of the following aspects: purpose, principle, instruments and drugs, safety, steps, treatment methods, problems, etc. Editors tried their best to demand safety measures and recovery treatment. If such requirements can be added to our teaching materials and guided by teachers, the experimental effect may be better. More importantly, from the experimental arrangement of this book, we can clearly see the idea of designing experiments. First of all, we should understand the principle and purpose, choose experimental supplies, then fully consider the possible unsafe factors in the experiment, followed by steps and recycling. Our thinking is generally objective principle → experimental supplies → steps → conclusion, while ignoring safety and environmental protection. I think Exploration in Chemistry has pointed out the obvious loopholes in this kind of thinking, which should arouse the thinking and attention of colleagues.

2. The teacher should start with me. Teachers are the main implementers of education for students. Teachers' thoughts, words and deeds have the most direct and effective influence on students. From the perspective of cultivating "safety awareness", teachers should do the following:

(1) Do the demonstration experiment meticulously. Teachers' every move in the demonstration experiment directly affects students' attitudes and methods when they start the experiment. Therefore, even the most commonly used instruments should not be sloppy at all. For some experiments with hidden dangers, we should fully prepare lessons and guide students to think through unsafe factors.

(2) Rational use of counterexamples. For the consequences of some wrong operations that can be simulated in the laboratory, teachers can design some wrong counterexamples to verify and deepen students' impression. For example, turn off the alcohol lamp first when heating, and the test tube will burst due to water backflow. As long as conditions permit and the device design is reasonable, it will not cause an accident.

(3) Strict supervision to cultivate students' good experimental habits. The students were most impressed when they entered the laboratory. The age characteristics of middle school students determine that they are curious about everything, and being active is their nature. Therefore, in students' experiments, in addition to clearly standardizing the operation and safety requirements, strengthening supervision is also an essential link.

(4) Enhance awareness of prevention and cultivate self-help ability. For example, how to deal with strong acid and alkali splashing on you, and how to deal with and save yourself in an emergency.

3. From the perspective of cultivating "environmental awareness", teachers should do the following:

(1) Teachers should base themselves on textbooks and infiltrate environmental education into regular teaching. There are many topics related to environmental protection in the teaching materials. Teachers should accurately grasp and make rational use of them, so that students can fully realize the importance of environmental protection and establish the awareness of environmental protection starting from me. For example, as the top two "killers" of air pollutants, teachers should clearly explain the generation, characteristics and harm of SO2 and CO, and explain how to avoid the generation of SO2 and CO and how to deal with it after poisoning. Based on the characteristics of SO2, the formation and harm of pollutant "acid rain" are expounded. So as to improve students' concern about environmental pollution.

(2) Carrying out research study is also an effective way to educate students on environmental protection. Teachers can organize students to carry out research on environmental protection topics in a planned way according to local conditions, and make use of students' existing knowledge to let students know about environmental protection knowledge outside books, which is very effective in helping students establish environmental awareness. On the other hand, we should educate students to start from themselves, from small things in daily life, and strive to reduce environmental pollution to a minimum and protect our homeland.

(3) Teachers should pay attention to the related knowledge of environmental protection, and can timely and accurately convey the development trends of environmental science to students; Let students acquire knowledge of safety and environmental protection through internet, TV and newspapers; Students can also have a strong interest by running blackboard newspapers, competitions and other activities. The cultivation of safety awareness and environmental awareness is an urgent and in-depth topic for all chemistry teachers. Using chemistry teaching to cultivate students' awareness of safety and environmental protection has superior conditions that other disciplines do not have. The majority of middle school teachers should make full use of this advantage and make their own contributions to protecting our living environment and the rapid and healthy development of China's modernization in the next few years and decades.
