Cangzhu is "empty" and is determined to win.
Text/School of Humanities 17 Korean version 1 Ban Nie Huihui

The poem says: "One section after another, a thousand branches are kept in Chiba. I don't blossom, so I don't tease bees and butterflies. Modest bamboo hangs down its leaves, while proud plum has no flowers on its back. " This is Zheng Xie, a poet in Qing Dynasty, chanting bamboo. Bamboo, modesty, perseverance, indifference and integrity. Cangzhu is "empty" but ambitious. This is the image of grandpa in my heart.

There is a bamboo whip on the incense burner in the hall. As long as I can remember, the bamboo whip has been lying there quietly. The passage of time and the accumulation of years make it darker and darker, but the bamboo joints are still clearly visible. Time flies and grandpa is getting old.

Grandpa is nearly old, and his face is already criss-crossed like a dry paddy field. Although the eyebrows have turned white, there is still a feeling of calm and comfort between them. She has long hair, wears a hat all the year round, and wears a washed white tunic suit. After working all my life, I have a thick layer of calluses on my palm, capillaries are all over the back of my hand, and scratches are staggered with my hands. Grandpa, who seldom eats meat because he is sick all the year round, is a little thin, but his figure is still so tall and straight, revealing a constant perseverance.

I often hear my father talk about my grandfather's past. Because my grandfather's father studied since childhood, he has some culture, he can study medicine and go to technical secondary school. In those days, it was not easy to get a technical secondary school degree. With grandpa's education, there could have been better development, but because the village needed development, the villagers tried their best to retain it, so grandpa chose to stay in the village and became an accountant in the village for decades.

Grandpa often said: "Modesty benefits, full of losses", and he is a modest, enthusiastic and prestigious person in the mouth of his neighbors. Grandpa always works for his neighbors by himself. He has no airs. When villagers ask him for help, he never shirks it. In the past, when my family borrowed rice and noodles, my grandfather always stood in the way and never cared. Grandpa always said, "When anyone has no difficulty, if he can help you." . Grandpa also taught the villagers grafting and cutting techniques and led the villagers to plant fruit trees. Because grandpa studied medicine and knew some knowledge of Chinese medicine, people often went home to ask for medicine. Although grandpa is nearly 70 years old, he still goes up the mountain to find medicine himself and never asks for anything in return. Grandpa is an upright, enthusiastic and reasonable person. When he was young, he was responsible for all the weddings and funerals in the village and won people's praise. Grandpa is old now, but the neighbors in the village will often ask him to uphold justice when there are occasional quarrels or contradictions. Grandpa always patiently reconciled one by one, and in the end, nothing left both sides dissatisfied.

Grandpa always educates the younger generation that "being a man should live up to one's conscience and not deceive others". Grandpa Yang in the village is a lonely old man with a hunchback. According to his grandfather, Grandpa Yang arrived in the village more than 30 years ago. When he first arrived in this village, he had nothing. Grandpa sympathized with his experience and organized the villagers to build a cabin for him. Since then, Grandpa Yang has settled in the village. Born with a hunchback, he made a living by weaving bamboo baskets, baskets and dustpans in his early years. In recent years, because of their age, the villagers applied for five guarantees for Grandpa Yang, so that their lives can be maintained. A few days before the Chinese New Year every year, Grandpa always sends Grandpa Yang pork and eggs for the Chinese New Year, so that Grandpa can have a good year. Grandpa treats Grandpa Yang as a relative, and Grandpa Yang also treats Grandpa as a big brother. Driven by grandpa, people in the village respect Grandpa Yang very much. Such a village has brought the warmth of home to a stranger, Grandpa Yang, and such a grandfather has also made Grandpa Yang feel the care of his family. It is such a person who, like bamboo, "doesn't ask for knowledge in the jungle and is not busy with mountains and seas." I have worked hard for village affairs all my life. Wherever I go, my granddaughter is happy to have such a respected and beloved grandfather when others mention him.

Among the elders of the same generation in the family, grandpa is the boss and the backbone and example of the whole family. Grandpa always teaches his family to "be filial to parents, respect elders, respect the old and love the young". In the eyes of children, grandpa is a kind old urchin. Grandpa always takes a few pieces of candy or cookies in his pocket wherever he goes, so the children at home are also called Grandpa Sugar. There is always a group of children around him who want candy. Grandpa always makes the children cry and laugh, which makes everyone laugh their heads off.

In the eyes of father and uncle, grandpa is a strong and strict father. Grandpa had an accident driving a carriage when he was forty. The carriage overturned and broke seven of his ribs. He stayed in the hospital for 22 days before coming home. Doctors say it's a miracle that Grandpa survived. From then on, grandpa can no longer do heavy work, and his father and uncle are still young. Life is suddenly very tight. Grandpa was in poor health, but he didn't give up. He didn't accept the help of the villagers, and relied on planting pear trees to support his family. According to my father, he learned to gamble when he was fifteen or sixteen. Grandpa whipped his father with bamboo for the first and only time. Whip is a father's education to his children, educating them to be frugal and simple, and not to be discouraged by playing with things. The whip hit my father on the back. Why didn't my grandfather, as my father, feel pain? Since then, my father has never gambled again, leaving a scar on his back that he will never forget.

In the eyes of uncles, grandpa is a respected big brother. On holidays, grandpa will invite a large family to dinner in the hall. He will always pick up the bamboo whip in the hall again and again, and educate the family to be modest, upright, frugal and never forget their roots. Year after year, this seems to have become an annual "annual custom." This bamboo whip, like family rules, always reminds us of the truth of being a man.

It is such an old man, an old man loved by his neighbors and respected by the people. Old urchin in children's eyes, strict father in father's eyes, big brother in uncles' eyes. There are bamboo modesty, bamboo indifference, bamboo integrity and bamboo tenacity. He is my most respected grandfather. When you think of grandpa, you think of the bamboo whip in the hall.
