The school was founded in Changchun Central Medical College, and was established in 1950. Its predecessor was Changchun College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was established in 1958. In 2006, it was renamed Changchun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The school is a provincial key university in Jilin Province, a basic capacity-building engineering university in central and western universities, a university jointly established by Jilin Provincial People's Government and state administration of traditional chinese medicine, and a high-level characteristic university in Jilin Province.
There are five disciplines in the school, mainly traditional Chinese medicine, with the coordinated development of medicine, engineering, management, law and literature. There are 2 post-doctoral mobile stations in the first-level discipline, 2 doctoral degree authorization points in the first-level discipline, 25 doctoral degree authorization points in two disciplines, 6 doctoral degree authorization points in the first-level discipline, and 4 master degree authorization points in two disciplines.
The school has 55 doctoral supervisors/kloc-0 and 730 master supervisors. There are academicians 1 person (double employment), 4 masters of traditional Chinese medicine, Bethune medal 1 person, Changjiang scholar 1 person, chief scientist of National 973 Project 1 person, 5 scholars from Huang Qi, leading figures in traditional Chinese medicine and 65,000 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions.
