Hohhot Institute for Nationalities is located in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is a key construction university in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region jointly established by the People's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission.
Founded in 1953, the school is the earliest ethnic college in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In 2000, Inner Mongolia Mongolian College merged with Inner Mongolia Normal School for Nationalities to form Inner Mongolia Institute for Nationalities. In 2009, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was upgraded to Hohhot Institute for Nationalities.
