His father, Xu, was the chairman of the Kuomintang Party Department in Yunlin County, the county magistrate of Yunlin County, the deputy director of the Kuomintang Party Group and Trade Union, the secretary-general of the Taiwan Provincial Government, and the "national policy adviser of the Presidential Palace". He is a member of the 15th Central Committee of the Kuomintang and a local power figure in Yunlin County. Mother Lin is currently the chairman of Yunlin Private Global Business School. Four brothers and sisters, ranking second. Eldest brother Shu-HsiangHsu, Ph.D. in Political Science, University of Colorado, USA, is currently the President of Global University of Science and Technology.
