? In fact, my respect for education in Chengdu has a long history, dating back to July 2005. That summer, when I attended the fourth annual meeting of "New Education Experiment" in Chengdu. At the annual meeting, the confrontation and contention of views seems to be rare nowadays. It is said that there are very talented netizens, such as Tin Drum and Gan Gan, who have been doing educational research and exploration on other platforms. But it is definitely consistent with the direction of the "new educational experiment", which can be described as the same goal.
? A few years ago, someone said that "Jiangsu is the focus of national education, and Nantong is the focus of Jiangsu education". In fact, Chengdu is the center of the land of abundance, and talents have come forth in large numbers throughout the ages. Chengdu people's enthusiasm for education reform not fade away. The actions of Chengdu education colleagues are often in the forefront of education reform. Although we only walked through a few primary schools, although we didn't walk into my fascinating paulownia tree primary school, we gained a lot. Although I can't go to middle schools to observe and appreciate because of my school days, the charm and actions of some middle schools in Chengdu still attracted me, which made me feel admired and fascinated. Therefore, when I heard a leader speak, he said, "We traveled all the way west to learn from the scriptures", and I felt the same way. . This is both modest and sincere and objective.
? Next, we will start from a middle school in Chengdu and find a story I wrote about a middle school in Chengdu to share with you.
? The trip to Chongqing in Chengdu reminds me of a middle school story.
? Regarding middle schools in Chengdu, I wrote an essay "The tradition of running a school should say no to utilitarian kidnapping", which has been published. The full text is as follows:
? According to media reports, about one month before the college entrance examination, Chengdu No.20 Middle School will arrange a class of Grade Two to suspend classes for three days in a row to clean the campus, which is a tradition that the school has continued for 20 years.
? Some parents questioned that this practice delayed students' study and wrote to the principal to raise objections. However, the principal of the school said that it will not change because of the pressure of further education, and will still adhere to the tradition.
? The author thinks that school education should make students "adults", and "adults" is the first meaning of education. The lack or rejection of labor education will be discounted in terms of "adults". I'm afraid no parents will disagree with this truth. But why do parents question the school's insistence on the tradition of labor education? This should be due to the "utilitarian consciousness" and "narrow view of success" in some parents' minds. "Adult" education is important, but it is not enough for students to experience it with sweat and spend time. Therefore, "lack of time, delay in learning" has become a reason. Is that really the case? Working for three days will "delay" your study. How much can you "delay"? The author can't find the scientific basis, and the practice in Chengdu for 20 years has not found any examples. So this kind of worry is really a bit "alarmist".
? Someone once wondered why some of our college students "lost their jobs after graduation" and "got jobs" and "returned to the furnace". This phenomenon is related to students' limited campus life in a corner of knowledge. Some high schools, some social practice activities, public welfare activities, and even the inspection activities that should have been attended have long been "forgotten" or "short-lived" false stories. What's more, a community poisoned a pond of frogs in order to give the children in the college entrance examination a quiet environment. This widely criticized case reminds us that when life is not respected, Excellence will always be a cloud; Labor and tradition are not respected, and the vast world outside books is not respected. Excellence is also a cloud. The "College Entrance Examination" has already stepped off the altar, and the thinking that "everything makes way for the college entrance examination" has long been questioned. Even the students themselves are ungrateful for "excessive concern". Some candidates said: "Excessive concern has increased our psychological pressure. The whole society is so caring. If we don't do well in the exam, who can we be worthy of? "
? On the other hand, even if the reform of the college entrance examination system continues, the academic burden of high school students is still not optimistic, and Chengdu No.20 Middle School is no exception. At this time, it is a relief for students trapped in the book city to temporarily put down their books, go out of the classroom to relax their brains, stretch their limbs and sweat like rain. What's wrong with that? Besides, we are short of student activities for more than three days.
? The current principal of Chengdu No.20 Middle School said that students should be guided to pay attention to the starry sky and the earth through labor experience; Pay attention to study and life; Focus on ability and responsibility. Guide students to do things and small things around them, and teach students smart ways and pragmatic work attitudes. At that time, the principal said that even if we didn't get into several courses in Peking University Tsinghua, it was for the sake of students' future development. What courage, mind and tolerance this is! It can be seen that defending tradition requires inheritance and persistence.
? Fortunately, even though the school has higher and higher requirements for cleaning, the students are still on the same side with the school. Some students said: "Three days seems a bit long, but as long as you arrange your own learning progress, it doesn't matter." Some students said: "The labor class is very tired, but I still feel that I have gained a lot." This can't help but make the author feel that compared with students, some parents may have a narrow vision. These three days are so long in the eyes of some parents! Fortunately, this idea is supported by most parents. It is reported that a class teacher asked the parents of the class for advice through QQ, and 34 parents replied, of which 28 parents had no objection.
? Examples of this kind of labor experience in foreign countries are not uncommon. British students began to learn vocational skills at the same time in junior high school. Not only undergraduates, but also masters and doctors must obtain corresponding vocational qualification certificates before they can get employment. On the night of Orgo at Columbia University, the night before the final exam of organic chemistry major, marching bands will rush into the library to play, thus "influencing" the students who are listening attentively and telling them that there is other life besides study. All these are worth learning from in our education.
? In fact, the principal of Chengdu No.20 Middle School is not confused. He knows more about the tension of study and the fierce competition than his parents. The school's adherence to tradition points to the cultivation of a complete "person" and the long-term and all-round development of students. This tradition of running a school also tells us that students need to stop and think briefly on their way forward. This stop is to get something that should belong to them. Putting such things into schoolbags will accompany students to go better and further.
? Running a school should have its own position, thought and tradition, and the tradition of running a school should say no to utilitarian kidnapping. (This article was published in "Teaching and Educating People" Principal Reference 20 16.6438+02)
? This time, thinking about the case of education in Chengdu two years ago is not to fabricate educational myths, but to remind ourselves that we can broaden our horizons to the stage of non-compulsory education in Chengdu, and the education in that stage in Chengdu can be taken out to bask in the sun. Chengdu people have such confidence.
? Second, during the trip to Chengdu and Chongqing, you can't forget the details of several primary schools.
? Walking through Chengdu and Chongqing, I am asking, what is the ideal school like? If someone asks me to help him choose an ideal middle school, then I will tell him to visit Chengdu No.20 Middle School. Because this is my ideal school.
? Back to the primary schools we visited, there are Yulin Primary School, Shishi Primary School, Sara Primary School, the primary school attached to Sichuan University in Chengdu, Xiejiawan Primary School in Chongqing and Renmin Primary School, each with its own strengths. As I said at the beginning of this article, I will not analyze it from the perspective of "curriculum". So I look back on some small things in these schools, hoping to feel the big pattern and atmosphere of Chengdu-Chongqing primary school education colleagues running schools from the details. Some scenes of several primary schools, even if not photographed and written down, will leave a deep imprint on their memories. I think those may be what we should remember, or what an ideal school looks like. Although different regions and schools are different, there are always similarities in running schools, and education always has its "DNA" ... From this perspective, I am also sketching out my ideal school.
(A) the ideal school is "rooted"
? On the afternoon of October 30th, 65438/KLOC-0, we visited Shishi Primary School. This is a young and energetic school, built on 20 10. At present, this school can be regarded as "Mao Ye", because its history is short, and it may not be easy to say that it is "deeply rooted". How can a young school link its history with its cultural roots? The founder of Shishi Primary School inspired us. They used the "Wen Weng Stone Room" to give the school such a name. Even if "Wen Weng Stone Chamber" is not in this area, why not? Because this is the resource of Chengdu (the name of Shishi Primary School is like a wise man in business grabbing a trademark). During the visit, I asked several teachers and a principal what the educational history of "Wen Weng's Poems" was. To my delight, they are all like treasures. So, I told myself that this young school has roots, and this deep root has grown in the hearts of Shishi primary school teachers.
? This is my fourth visit to Chengdu. As I participated in the new education experiment, I explored the footprint of teacher Li Zhenxi and the origin of the name of "Shishi Middle School" where he worked. Let's summarize the figures and arrange them as follows: The school is named after "Shishi", which is intended to inherit the fine tradition of "Wen Weng Shishi" for more than two thousand years. As early as the Western Han Dynasty, Wen Weng was appointed as the magistrate of Shu County, which governed 15 poor and backward counties. The financial resources of the county government are very limited, so it is difficult to manage a school. The external conditions are very bad, but Wen Weng knows that if the economy is backward, there will be opportunities for development in the future, and if the cultural quality is backward, it will be difficult to develop in the future. Therefore, Wen Weng personally led his men to use local materials and built a stone house in the south of the city with smooth stones that could be seen everywhere at that time, and set up a school, which was later called "Wen Weng Stone House". Here, civilization is passed down and spirit is cast. "Wen Weng Poetry" is a school that has been running for more than 2,000 years and has never been interrupted or moved. It is the first school run by a local government in China, and has trained a large number of talents for many years.
? So, as soon as I arrived at Shishi Primary School, I asked the headmaster who received us. Shishi Primary School is not the location of "Wen Weng Shishi". Why did I give my school this name? The headmaster said that "Wen Weng Stone Room" is the root of education in Chengdu, with a long history, and the spirit should be passed down. Then, she proudly and eloquently introduced that history. The headmaster seems to be making up lessons for us, and we seem to be increasing our knowledge of the history of education in China.
? Listening quietly, I feel that the school administrators of Shishi Primary School have a kind of memory and admiration for the educational sages in their dictionaries, and inherit the educational spirit of "persistence" and "dedication". From Shishi Primary School, we think of Wen Weng, and those true gentlemen who devoted themselves to and shouted for education, such as Cai Yuanpei, Yan Chu Yang and Tao Xingzhi, who bumped their heads against the south wall and never came back. Let's take a look. Mr. Yan, a doer who devoted his whole life to civilian education, summed up the rural problems in China as "stupid, poor, weak and private" and advocated treating them separately as "four major educations": literature and art, people's livelihood, health and citizens. In order to educate his ideals, he took the lead in moving his family to the countryside. During those years in Dingxian County, Hebei Province, I once admitted the difficulties in my work and my attitude: "The lack of talents and management, coupled with domestic and foreign troubles and natural and man-made disasters, made it difficult to attach importance to education reform. The great plan to transform national life will never succeed in an instant, and we can only do it in a down-to-earth manner. " Today's principals should attach great importance to, inherit and carry forward this persistence and persistence in the concept in a sinister environment. His contribution to the "Ping Church" led by him in Hebei still benefits the local area and enjoys a high reputation in Hebei. Yan's "labor" and "modesty" devoted to civilian education, contact with the people and rural construction are spiritual heritages that still need to be inherited and carried forward today.
? I think Shishi Middle School has existed for a long time, and a primary school built first was also named after Shishi. This is not "lazy", not casual, but seeking roots and inheriting. The ideal school needs spiritual roots.
(B) the ideal school is "truth-seeking."
? In Yulin primary school, the principal's introduction is eloquent, so I won't go into details. I was deeply impressed by the school's practice. The school has done a good job in co-education between home and school. The school continued to conduct a questionnaire survey of parents, asking them to give advice to the school and recommend the most satisfactory teachers. Moreover, this survey is sent directly to parents for recycling (just like "flying shorts"), not to the class for recycling.
? I wonder, why do schools do research like this? Aren't they afraid of hearing negative voices, criticisms and doubts and adding obstacles to their hearts? The headmaster told us to hear the real voice. Indeed, the questionnaire is sent to the class, and the class teacher and the subject teacher "arrange" or "coach" the students, or ask some representatives to fill it out on the spot ... can you understand the real situation of running a school? Not necessarily. Blindly "loving" this kind of investigation, I am afraid I will not recognize my own school situation, and even lose my way.
? Running a school is, in the final analysis, the inheritance of civilization and the continuation of spiritual values. The support of civilization and spiritual values depends on "truth". Without "truth", "everything is a cloud" is a cloud. Truth is the soul of education. Once the soul is scattered, no matter how touching words, melodies and pictures are, it is impossible to spread forever. The administrator of this school tells us with actions that only by facing up to the shortcomings and listening to the real voice can there be real progress in running a school.
? So, let's do more thinking. Let's ask what an ideal school looks like with questionnaires such as "education equality", "school evaluation" and "teacher evaluation". What is the ideal education? This should not be decided by the administrative department of education, schools and the media, but should be guided by the needs of the people and decided by the educated and their parents. School administrators in Sara primary schools are well aware of this. Its "realistic" heart is the source of thinking about the school.
(3) The ideal school has "personality"
? During the half-day in Xiejiawan Primary School in Chongqing, we walked through many classrooms and showrooms, and accompanied the teachers and students of the open class through the corridor. Wherever we go, we always feel quiet around us, as quiet as a rest garden. However, such a campus is not depressing. In a quiet environment, we often encounter bright smiles, warm greetings and orderly activities. The teachers and students in the school are so gentle, and the campus environment is so warm and pleasant. This is not magic at all! Because, from the words, deeds and activities of teachers and students, we clearly feel the jointing and rushing thinking and the power of persistent pursuit in their lives.
? On the contrary, in Chongqing People's Primary School, it is a sea of jubilation. Shortly after we arrived, it happened to be a 30-minute student activity, and groups of Xiong Haizi were having a good time on campus. Playing slides, posing on the roots of trees, having fun behind visiting guests, and playing games around the principal who explained them … are simply "doing whatever you want", but all these do not break the etiquette, violate the rules and act recklessly.
? A "static", a "dynamic", two schools, two faces. Who can you say is better than who? I can't. To paraphrase, everyone is different and everyone is fine! Without long-term cultivation, guidance and silent edification, how can Xiejiawan Primary School have a vibrant "quiet"? Without real trust and respect for children, how can there be a happy "movement" like people's primary school? Walking through these two schools, I felt different beauty. I was shocked by the different characteristics of two primary schools in Chongqing. Schools can be so different! I also deeply know that we can't blindly copy and imitate, otherwise it will be a toddler in Handan. Principals should know that the ideal school is not a face, but a look, and it is impossible to achieve a good balance between "letting go" and "receiving" and "respecting" and "managing". A school should have its own personality, but it is by no means willful. This is what the headmaster should practice, reflect and correct constantly in running a school.
? What does an ideal school look like? I am advancing in doubt.
