The institute was originally a municipal base approved by Zhengzhou Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, and was later put on record by Henan Human Resources and Social Security Department and upgraded to a provincial base. Zhengzhou Research Institute of Harbin Institute of Technology (Harbin Institute of Technology) is the overall lead unit of educational research and Industry-University-Research cooperation established by Harbin Institute of Technology in Zhengzhou.

It was established to deeply integrate into the national innovation-driven development strategy, improve Zhengzhou's scientific and technological innovation ability and higher education level, and help Zhengzhou build a modern national central city.
