At present, students' mental health education is facing severe challenges and it is difficult to meet the requirements of mental health specialty. So, what is the concept of mental health education?
An excellent mental health teacher must have a good concept of mental health education. Based on years of mental health education practice, the author talks about the ideas that mental health teachers should have.
The first idea: allow yourself and your students to be first.
In the psychological education class named "Have a goal first, then take action", there is a link where I discuss with the students "If you stay in a big library for a day and there is something you want to learn, what do you want to learn?" A gay man said he wanted to study "micro-expression". He said that many students in the class have a single expression and can't basically judge their true thoughts. However, micro-expression is a kind of flashing expression that many people can't detect, but it can truly reflect our true feelings and motives.
These words can't help but remind me that in China's educational philosophy, children are required and bound by various rules since childhood ―― you should be like this, you should be like that, and we are required to be a good student, a good mother, a good father, a good teacher and a good colleague ... We are confined to various roles, but we often ignore one thing: we are human first, we will have emotions, shortcomings and many mistakes. So many people's expressions are standardized and ritualized.
In the psychological education class called "Motivation and Honing", when the students were asked to talk about "the moment when I was deeply motivated", only three or four students in the class of about 40 raised their hands. A female classmate shared: During a break, the head teacher came up to her and said, "Your Chinese and English classes are very good, but you haven't kept up with math. Always turn over math books and do more math problems after class. The classmate said that she was deeply inspired at that moment and she could not live up to the teacher's expectations. This makes people wonder: today's children are seen by many people as bossy, unruly and unmoved. But from the moment when only a few students raised their hands to the sharing of this female classmate, I feel that there are too few moments when students are motivated. They are hard-working, self-centered and even indifferent. Like students, we are surrounded by more demands from relatives and friends.
Human nature is like a seed, which needs encouragement and sunshine, encouragement and touch, but such opportunities are too few. Therefore, every mental health teacher should establish the idea that teachers and students are the first: allow themselves and students to make mistakes, give themselves and students some imperfect time and opportunities, and create opportunities and situations that can inspire students.
The second idea: be good at observing the motivation behind students' behavior.
We take too many things for granted, for example, students with poor grades just don't like learning, and naughty students are bad students. In fact, what the eyes see is not necessarily the truth, just like magic.
We need to know what is the motivation behind students' behavior. With the advancement of psychological education, such a concept of educating people has been widely popularized. Many psychological teachers love to think when they encounter something: Why does TA do this?
I remember a teacher who trained new mental health teachers communicated with me, saying that the teachers who participated in the training had different learning States, and some even ignored the classroom and did not attend classes at all. Later, I analyzed with him that most of the teachers who participated in the training were class teachers, and some teachers only participated in the training in order to get the qualification certificate of mental health teachers. At this time, we are relieved. In psychological education, it is particularly important to observe the motivation behind students' behavior, just as accurate pulse-taking is a necessary skill for doctors.
Another example is a classmate in the morning. When he was in junior high school, he loved learning very much and got excellent grades. However, he wanted to drop out of school only one week after entering high school, so it was obviously very simple to be labeled as not loving learning. It turned out that he was promoted to a key class in high school. Every time he enters the classroom, he sees the students working hard in a pile of textbooks. He felt as if he had returned to the tense learning atmosphere in the third grade, and a sense of oppression came over him that made him unable to breathe. He wants to have a rest, but he is afraid of falling behind. For a week, he has accumulated too many negative emotions in his study and life. He is afraid of entering the class and has problems in adapting to the school. His motivation for quitting school is not that he doesn't like studying. After quasi-motivation, mental health teachers can do more work to help him vent his nervousness and adjust him to the new study and life.
Therefore, the way to help others is to observe the motives behind others' behavior, analyze the reasons and find substantive and targeted help methods.
The third concept: constantly filling the connotation of positive psychology.
The traditional concept of psychology is to relieve psychological problems, solve psychological obstacles and treat mental diseases. Many times, traditional psychological education pays more attention to the negative nature of human nature.
In recent years, Harvard University has opened a "happiness course", that is, the course of positive psychology. It is mentioned that among the psychological papers published from 1936 to 2000, the proportion of papers focusing on negative and positive humanity is 21:1; Experiments and investigations on psychological problems that have attracted much attention with a lot of money have mostly ended in failure. Why not pay attention to the positive psychology of human nature? The idea advocated by positive psychology is exactly the opposite of traditional psychology: how to develop individual potential and make everyone more and more happy. This happy course has become one of the most popular courses in Harvard University. Psychological investigation shows that cultivating positive emotions is the best way to eliminate depression and anxiety.
In psychological education, we should have the concept of positive psychology to cultivate students' positive emotions. Psychologists have studied a large number of children who grew up in an unfortunate environment but are still successful, and analyzed what qualities these children have. In the practice of psychological education, these positive qualities are an important reference for us to cultivate students.
What positive qualities should students cultivate? Optimistic, optimistic that things will be solved satisfactorily by their own efforts, rather than blindly optimistic; Sense of meaning, full of confidence in their study and life, students like to engage in some altruistic behavior; Recognizing their own advantages, students have a good sense of self and can foster strengths and avoid weaknesses; Have goals, even if the status quo is not satisfactory, but still can constantly recognize the bad status quo, while imagining their goals in five or ten years; There are examples to follow; Know how to cooperate, not go it alone; Have the courage to admit your weaknesses.
Mental health teachers have the concept of positive psychology, which can not only cultivate students' positive emotions, but also give students a big enough psychological engine when facing various difficulties.
Fourth idea: believe that change is possible.
In psychological education, the idea that "change is possible" is very important. However, at present, many students have no goals and dreams, and just muddle along every day. These students subconsciously think that change is impossible, and the road taken by their elders is the road they will take in the future. The so-called road ahead is boundless. The educational concept of the new mental health teacher should be: students are like this now, and after a few months and years, through our efforts, they will realize their dreams. Or you can't realize your dream, but you can take a step closer to it. We should believe that every student's change is possible and be pragmatic idealists.
Fifth idea: The function of psychological education focuses on prevention and development, not case consultation.
A psychological counseling case needs more energy and time, stronger social support, and even hard to recover. Some mental health teachers prefer to do psychological case counseling. Don't you know that it takes time and energy? Sometimes the problem is so serious that even the teachers themselves feel desperate and collapsed.
Offering targeted psychological education classes and group assistance, so that students can have a "pre-plan" when they encounter psychological problems, plant a seed that can draw energy in their hearts and enhance their psychological engine. At present, many class teachers are also mental health teachers in the class, which is very suitable for this kind of work. If a special group or activity class is not enough, you can design many different courses to let students grow in a spiral way, because students' psychological education concept also needs to be consolidated.
New mental health teachers need to keep learning and combing. Armed with the ideas of humanity, wisdom, positivity, firmness and development, we can grow ourselves, enrich our lives, realize our self-worth and, more importantly, bring the gospel to more students.
