There have always been two kinds of opinions about the record of Yue Ji. One was written by Gongsun Nizi, a disciple of Confucius in the Warring States Period, and the other was obtained by Liu Xiang and Liu Xin in the Han Dynasty.
As for the origin of music, Yue Ji thinks that music is expressed through sound, and emotion comes from people's reaction to reality. It believes that changes in external things cause various changes in people's emotions, and music is the external manifestation of these changes. Regarding the influence of music on people's feelings, happy people are happy, and human feelings cannot be avoided. ? It is inevitable that everyone needs music in this world. It is very correct to emphasize the influence of music on emotion in Yue Ji. When a country is at the climax of revolution or during the period of resisting foreign invasion, revolutionary songs are floating all over the streets, people's revolutionary enthusiasm is high, and sense of justice is overwhelming in bad style. When decadent music is rampant, many teenagers are degenerate and depressed. Modern research results also prove that there is a certain connection between music and emotion. Music also emphasizes that music is closely related to politics and society. It is recorded in the book:? Make the vocal music that governs the world, its politics, the voice of troubled times angry, and its politics good? As for the social function of music, it is advocated that music should cooperate with governing the country, correct social atmosphere and etiquette, and serve the rulers' civil and military affairs.
Yue Ji inherits and develops the Confucian thoughts on the characteristics of music, the function of Yue Ji and the relationship between content, form, ceremony and music since Confucius. These thoughts are clearer, more comprehensive and more systematic than those in previous Confucian works. As the most important and systematic monograph on music ideological education in ancient China, Yue Ji is still shining.
