school achievement
Ji Xianlin's academic research, in his own words, is "Brahma, Buddhism, earth fire and Tam simultaneously, and China literature, comparative literature and literary theory are studied in Qi Fei". According to Professor Zhang Guanglin and Mr. Ke Ling from the Department of Oriental Studies in Peking University, Ji Xianlin's academic achievements generally include the following 10 aspects:
1. Research on ancient Indian: The change of finite verbs in great events, the transformation of Chinese Indian suffixes -am to -o and -u, and the use of infinite past as the standard for determining the time and source of Buddhist scriptures made pioneering contributions in this research field at that time.
2. Research on the history of Buddhism: He is one of the few Buddhist teaching scholars at home and abroad who can really study the original Buddhist scriptures. He combined the study of the law of language changes in India in the Middle Ages with the study of Buddhist history to find out the emergence, evolution and spread of major Buddhist classics, thus determining the emergence and spread of important Buddhist factions.
3. Research on Bow-tone Language: The early masterpiece "Translation of the Bow-tone Book of Prince Fu Li's Causality" initiated a successful method for the semantic research of Bow-tone Language. From 1948 to 1980, the newly discovered bow sound in Turpan, Xinjiang was discovered. The Preface to Collation broke the lie that Tuhuoluowen was discovered in China and studied abroad, and was translated by less than 30 people all over the world, which is an important achievement of China's research on the history of the western regions for decades. 1996 The completed sugar history shows ancient China, India, Persia, Arabia, Egypt, Southeast Asia and Europe.
4. Introduction to Indian literary works and Indian literary studies: Ramayana is one of the two great epics in ancient India, with more than 20,000 poems and more than 90,000 lines translated into Chinese. It took Ji Xianlin 65,438+00 years to finally complete the translation, which is unprecedented in the translation history of China.
5. Comparative Literature Research: In the early 1980s, he first advocated the restoration of comparative literature research and called for the establishment of China School of Comparative Literature, which made great contributions to the revival of comparative literature in China.
6. Oriental Culture Research: Since the late 1980s, I have vigorously advocated the study of oriental culture, and edited a large-scale cultural series, The Fusion of Oriental Cultures, with more than 500,800 volumes, which is expected to be completed in 15 years.
7. Preservation and rescue of ancient books and records in China: In the 1990s, he was the editor-in-chief of two great books series, The Collection of Sikuquanshu and The Collection of Books Handed Down from Ancient Times.
8. Prose creation: I began to write prose at the age of 65,438+07, and I have written more than 800,000 words for decades. When celebrating Ji Xianlin's 88th birthday, Zhong Jingwen said: "The highest realm of literature is simplicity, and Mr. Ji's works have reached this realm. He is simply because he is sincere. " "As the old saying goes, I love my husband's good writing."

Ji Xianlin's evaluation
Ji Xianlin is respected by many people in Chinese mainland and regarded by some as a "master of Chinese studies", "academic leader" and "national treasure" in Chinese mainland. In this regard, Ji Xianlin defended these three laurels in Miscellaneous Notes from his deathbed: "I have never worked hard on any classics or writers, because I never wanted to be a sinologist. In addition to reciting hundreds of poems and dozens of ancient texts; Apart from being able to talk about some issues related to Chinese studies at the biggest macro level, such as the unity of man and nature, my knowledge of Chinese studies has not increased.
Looking around, my friend China reflected the molecular course of learning basic knowledge. "
Wen Jiabao visited Ji Xianlin five times. He said, "Your greatest feature is that you have never stopped writing all your life. The works you wrote, such as "Walking Clouds and Flowing Water", are true in narrative and inherit the spirit, which is very durable. " "The book you wrote is not only a portrayal of your personal life, but also a reflection of the history of intellectuals in China in the past century. You have not lost faith in the most difficult times, including the' cowshed' rectification. " "Your life is bumpy, you dare to tell the truth and express your opinions, which is worth learning."
