I basically attended Big Judy's parent-teacher conference in Shanghai. The basic process is to listen to the school speech first, then the main class teacher takes turns to talk about the learning situation, and finally the class teacher speaks to comment on the overall learning situation of the class. Guo Mao's parent-teacher conference is just a tea party. The key is that there is no theme study from beginning to end. After chatting all afternoon, I almost had no time to pick up the baby. What are you talking about?
Chen Gang, the founder of Guo Mao, presided over the parent-teacher conference and made a keynote speech. I recently learned that this guy's main job is to chat with his parents. Guo Mao's parent-teacher conference will be held every two weeks, and then seven parents can be convened regularly to hold a parent salon with Chen Gang. It can be seen that Guo Mao is a school that attaches great importance to the concept of community-based education.
The main form and content of the parent-teacher conference is that parents share the growth and changes of their babies after entering the fourth grade, and some onlookers in the lower grades participate together. What we share and discuss is not the study and grades, but the progress and problems of children after entering the fourth grade. Then, around these phenomena, we really study and discuss the growth of children, including emotional socialization, time management, self-awareness and so on.
For example, I am most worried about Judy's two problems. One is that I am often absent-minded, especially when I get up in the morning. Most of them are sleepwalking, and so is keeping a diary and doing homework on weekends. Chen Gang said that this is called a "great daydream", which is a natural phenomenon in the process of children's growth and brain development, and then parents recalled that they seemed to have had such a situation in junior high school. I also found that it is really common, not abnormal in my family. My parents talked about their baby's wonderful distracted events, and I was instantly relieved. My spirit is much better these two mornings.
What's more, I haven't sent Judy a mobile phone and ipad before. Considering that I am going to IB International School in Thailand in the fourth grade, Ipad is a necessary study tool, so I bought this for her as a birthday present this summer vacation. And then I've been fighting with her lately. I set the password, and she cracked it ... After the communication, I found that her classmates used ipads very early, and they all managed themselves well. A parent shared that she once gave her boy a 24-hour ipad freedom, and the child was very satisfied. Then she went to each classmate's house to show off in the morning and made an appointment to play games together. In the afternoon, the boy still plays football and outdoor activities normally. Finally, this 24-hour iPad. Chen Gang said a word, which I think is particularly reasonable. He said that if this matter is inevitable for children, the earlier they come into contact with mistakes, the lower the cost, and the easier it is to establish rules on the basis of meeting children's psychological needs and let children learn to manage themselves.
After chatting for more than three hours, the parents' meeting was in full swing, and finally it ended in a hurry when the baby was picked up from school. Maoguo will hold a parent-teacher meeting every two weeks. It is said that once everyone will share the content of discussing children's growth and family education, and there will be another subject teacher present. I wonder if the content will be different from traditional public schools?
Last Saturday, the "real library" I participated in (see last week's tweet for details) held its first activity. The first guests were nine international students from Stanford, Columbia University and Hong Kong University. As a mother, I especially talked with them about their growth and learning background. I found that these young people have different excellences, but they have one thing in common, that is, their parents are very free and respect their children's own interests and choices when they grow up.
My own educational philosophy for Big Judy has always been to "create an environment and wait for flowers to bloom", but I really want to "let go instead of stocking". This kind of "quietness" is not so easy to grasp, just like when I face all kinds of problems of Big Judy, I can't help feeling anxious and irritable, but I think it is very good for my own study and growth by attending the parent-teacher meeting of Cat Fruit. For our parents, it is to let go of anxiety and learn to accept it. The first time I met Chen Gang, who had been running a school in Dali for eight years, the biggest resonance and feeling of our exchange was that education was slow and urgent. So it is no wonder that places like Dali and Thailand, where the pace of life is slow, have become the best educational soil for us.
Before Guo Mao, there were no special projects for short-term normal classes in other places, which were mainly long-term probation and summer camps. Last week, I shared the tidbits of Big Judy's first week of school. Many mothers are very interested in this. Many mothers also want to take their babies to the cat fruit school where Judy is studying for a short time before the epidemic is over and they can't go abroad. After discussion with the school, it is planned to officially launch some short-term placement projects for kindergartens on the eve of the National Day, and will specially customize the activities of parents' salons to exchange feedback to parents studying abroad. Please refer to today's second push for details.
