In On Great Teaching, Comenius put forward "universal education" as the core of his educational thought. "Universal education" means "teaching ordinary knowledge to all people", which can be understood as "teaching all knowledge to some people" in a popular way.
There are two aspects involved here: first, "all knowledge", on which Comenius put forward the teaching content-encyclopedic curriculum; The second is "all the people", which shows that the object of education is all the people and embodies the idea of universal education and equality in education.
Teaching principle
Comenius combined the idea of "introducing nature" in the Renaissance with his own thoughts, and then put forward the fundamental guiding principle of "education follows nature". He also criticized the shortcomings of the old school and pointed out that the education work in the school at that time did not conform to the natural order of things.
In Comenius' view, "education follows nature" contains two meanings: first, education should adapt to the development law of nature; Second, education should adapt to children's natural development, that is, education should adapt to children's nature, age and characteristics.
