Zhenping
At the beginning of the establishment of the county in the sixth year of Chongzhen in Ming Dynasty (1633), it was given the name "Zhenping", and the origin of "Zhenping" has two versions. It means "suppressing peace". According to this theory, the county is located at the junction of Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces, with continuous mountains and rivers, which are occupied by "thieves". In the Ming Dynasty, officers and men suppressed the rebellion many times, so the county was named after "zhenping county" and placed behind "Tu Ping Mouth" in Ji Xu to show the meaning of "suppressing the peace". The second view is that in the past, both sides of the county government had "appeasement" and "sticking to the border". "appeasement" means "appeasement and leveling", and "sticking to the border" means that it was originally flat land, and the interests of townships and counties were analyzed. Xiong Wencan, the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi, said in "Building a City": "The grottoes are more than 200 miles away from Pingyuan, and it is difficult to cure them remotely. ... if the county is built in a grotto, it is a plain thief; When Song, Yuan and Lan Fang are beheaded, the thief of Cheng Xiang will also be killed, killing two birds with one stone, and the new county is named' Zhenping' … "This view holds that setting up a county is the source of chaos, which means" calming the town ".
(2) Jiaoling
After the founding of the Republic of China, in the third year of the Republic of China (19 14), zhenping county was renamed Jiaoling County. Because there was a county with the same name in Henan Province, it was changed to avoid the same name. According to Jiaoling in Ci Yuan: "The city crosses Jiaoling, and the county is named after it." In other words, the origin of the name of Jiaoling County is because the hill in the north of the city is called Jiaoling. Why is that mountain called Jiaoling? According to legend, in ancient times, this area was named after many banana trees and dense banana forests.
In Qing Dynasty, Jiaoling was also called "Guiling". "Hao Tongzhi" (namely "Guangdong Tongzhi") Note: "Guiling is located in the north corner of the city, formerly known as Jiaoling. In the forty-five years of Qing Qianlong, Zhou Keda, a magistrate of a county, built an academy at the foot of Zhenshan, named Guiling Academy. " Later generations called Zhenshan Guiling. According to "A Sign of Grottoes", "Jiaoling Academy, the name of the city, is called Guiling alone. According to Shen Luan Lu, "Guilin has Bagui Hall, which is not up to Bagui. There is a small slope crossing between Erli and Sanli, which is more than ten feet high and has a stone tablet called Guiling. "In this name, the academy is built on the sun of the ridge, with ups and downs, looming like Guilin in Bagui, a branch of Guilin, and Kunshan is also a toast."
In the Qing Dynasty, it was also called "Yang Jiao". In the forty-five years of Qing Qianlong (1780), Zhao Kang, the magistrate of Jiaying, said in the Inscription on the Relocation of Guilin Academy: "... in the winter of 1898, he was ordered to come to Jia and be transferred to Jia." That year, Zhou Keda, the county magistrate, also said in his inscription: "September is Yang Jiao." Notes in Zhenping County Records: "The county seat was built in Guilingyang, that is, Guhuairenli." It can be seen that there was indeed the name of "Yang Jiao" during the reign of Qing Qianlong. 10 (192 1), Nanyangjiao Town, Shan Zhi was established. Yang Jiao refers to its location in the south of Jiaoling. Jiaocheng Town, where the county seat is located, is called Yang Jiao in some places, which generally refers to Jiaoling County, so it is also called "Twelve Villages in Yang Jiao". Ancestors used to take the scenic spots of mountains and rivers where the county seat was located as another name for the county seat. The theories of "Guiling Ointment" and "Yang Jiao" belong to this category. Poetry has been circulating for a long time and the masses have accepted it. The hometown of Jiaoling, Guhuairen, and the address of its richest grottoes, the River Plain, belong to Pingyuan County.
In the sixth year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty (1633), the county and township sages wrote to the authorities of the Ming Dynasty, asking for zhenping county. Xiong Wencan, Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi, adopted this submission and wrote "Building a Sparse City", which accurately analyzed the capital of Pingyuan Grottoes and the two capitals of Cheng Xiang, Song Yuan and Gui Jiang, and set up zhenping county, which belonged to Chaozhou.
